COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces some of the main topics and issues in management and organization theory and illustrates
both traditional and critical approaches to understanding them. The course seeks to develop critical and analytical
skills in both thinking and writing. It provides an analytical framework to assist students to question and reflect on
management and organisational processes. It promotes the view that managers need to develop a sophisticated view
of the organisation in order to understand the complexities of the organisational and social world. It raises issues
about the purposes of organisation, about change, leadership, individual and group behaviour and about current
issues in management. The course gives specific emphasis to an understanding of what management is about, what
it is for and what it seeks to do. Consequently, the course challenges many of the taken for granted assumptions of
the conventional undergraduate management text book in such a way as to provide opportunities to both theorize
management and to explore the realities of organisational experiences. The course begins by examining the nature of
organisations and the process of organising and moves towards the analysis of management and the process of
managing.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The course aims at:


1) Developing skills necessary to manage teams to achieve organizational goals
2) Introducing the principles and applications relevant to the functions of management
3) Analyzing organizations by broadly focusing on their management, role of the individuals, business and
technology
4) Providing knowledge about importance of ethical behaviors and corporate social responsibility in an
organization
5) Analyzing the role, responsibilities and challenges of a manager, and helping the students in creating their own
approach of how to lead a team.
6) Providing opportunities to the students to capture their thought and ideas through writing, as well as provide
feedback on these written reports
7) Providing an opportunity to create a linkage between theoretical knowledge and its practical implementation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:


1) Recognize the purpose of existence and role of organizations in society
2) Explain how organizations adapt to an uncertain environment and identify techniques managers use to influence
and control the internal environment.
3) Observe and evaluate the influence of historical forces on the current practice of management.
4) Practice the process of management's four functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
5) Implement Team Work, motivate and lead in any given managerial role.
6) Use problem solving strategies and critical thinking in real life situations at workplace.
7) Create linkage between theoretical knowledge and practical implications.

BBA PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

1. Equip students with a variety of organizing, planning, controlling, team-building and communicating skills
necessary to effectively manage and lead organizations in diverse and dynamic environments
2. Provide students with an understanding of contemporary social, economic and political realities which
impact the business environment in Pakistan as well as globally
3. Nurture problem analysis and decision making skills required for handling challenges faced by modern
businesses. Students will be imparted sustaining potential through development of management knowledge
and skills
4. Maintain an industry driven blend between theory and practical application in teaching
5. Integrate knowledge of the functional areas of business and funnel into a coherent strategic whole to enable
students see management problems in a holistic perspective
6. Ability to design and propose effective policies for value creation through core business processes of any
organization
7. Encourage ‘out of box’ thinking and novel solution finding for conventional and non-conventional problems
in management domain
8. Demonstrate an awareness of the ethical considerations and social responsibilities in the conduct of
business. Graduates will be able to evaluate community responsibilities in organizations and society and
propose innovative solutions to complex issues faced by organizations in the pretext of local value system
9. Improve interpersonal skills required for effective teamwork and developing cordial work environments.
Nourish leadership and initiative taking capabilities coupled with written and oral competencies to enrich
managerial effectiveness.
10. Equip students with quantitative and qualitative tools to identify potential business opportunities and
successfully materialize new entrepreneurial ventures.
