MUSIC: STARTING TO READ MUSIC

MUSIC | LESSON 1: THE MUSICAL STAFF

Big Idea:
 The musical staff is where you fund the notes to a song.

Essential Questions:
 Have you seen a musical staff?
 What symbols are found in a musical staff?

Notes:
 The musical staff is used to read and write music. It is composed of five lines and four spaces.
 The G-clef or Treble clef helps you tell the exact position of the pitches or tones the staff.

Drill:
 Review on p 84-85.

MUSIC | LESSON 2: WRITING DO, RE, AND MI ON THE STAFF

Big Idea:
 Do, Re, and Mi have their positions in the Treble clef or G-clef.

Essential Questions:
 Where are Do, Re, and Mi located in the Treble or G-clef?
 What songs do you know have fa-so syllables?

Notes:
 A ledger line is an extended line below and above the staff.
 On the G-clef, the middle Do is written on the first ledger line below the staff.
 Re is written one step higher than Do. It is written on the space below the staff.
 Mi is written two steps higher than Do. It is written on the first line of the staff above Re.

 Review on p 90-91

MUSIC | LESSON 3: WRITING SO AND LA ON THE STAFF

Big Idea:
 So and La have their positions in the Treble clef or G-clef.

Notes:
 So is written on the second line of the staff which is four steps away from Do.
 La is written on the second space of the staff which is five steps away from Do.

Performance Task:
 Practical activity: Memorize and sing in front of the class the “Do, Re, Mi Song: Do a dear. . .”

ART | LESSON 1: PLACES AROUND ME

Big Idea:
 A beautiful scenery can be the inspiration for an artwork.

Essential Questions:
 Where do you want live, in the province or in the city?
 What beautiful can be found in your province or your city?

Notes:
 A landscape shows a place in the natural environment. The natural environment includes the
trees, mountains, rocks, grass, and plants.
 A landscape is a picture of a scene in the natural setting like a garden, farm, forest, or
grassland.

Drill:
 Review on p 171.

Performance Task 4.1:


 In an oslo paper. Instruction: Plan your landscape drawing. You can draw a garden,
mountains, or forest.

ART | LESSON 2: BUILDINGS AND GARDENS

Big Idea:
 Many artworks were inspired by the man-made environment like city.

Essential Questions:
 What things in the man-made environment can be put in an artwork?
 What beautiful scenes can you find in the city?

Notes:
 Buildings are part of our man-made environment. They have different shapes or forms.
 Buildings are made by people called engineers.
 Architects plan and draw buildings.

Performance Task 4.2:


 In an oslo paper. Instruction: Sketch your dram building. See p 174-175.

ART | LESSON 3: DECOUPAGE

Big Idea:
 Recycled materials can be used to make beautiful artworks.

Essential Questions:
 What are the things you can reuse and recycle at home and in school?
 Why is it important to reuse and recycle materials?

Notes:
 To help clean and preserve the environment, you can use recyclable materials to make arts
and arts.
 Decoupage is an art activity where you decorate a surface with cut-out pictures and apply
transparent finish to protect them.

Performance Task 4.3:


 Decoupage-making.

ART | LESSON 4: LET’S CELEBRATE

Big Idea:
 Celebrations of any kind can bring out the artist in anyone.

Essential Questions:
 What fiestas or community celebrations have you attended?
 What beautiful things did you observe from the fiesta or community celebration?

Notes:
 People in the community make arts and crafts during celebrations or fiestas.
 Masks are commodity used as part of costumes during celebrations.
