AED BOARD APPOINTS GREGORY R. NIBLETT AS

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Washington, D.C., January 12, 2011–AED’s Board of Directors has named Gregory R. Niblett the
organization’s new chief operating officer for AED. Most recently, Niblett served as senior vice
president and director of the AED Social Change Group, where he oversaw more than 80
international and U.S.-based projects in areas such as civil society and governance, environment
and climate change, youth, and disease prevention, including HIV/AIDS.

During his 18 years at AED, Niblett led cross-organizational initiatives as co-chair of the strategic
planning process, and chair of both the AED HIV/AIDS Forum and AED’s Climate Change
Taskforce.

“Greg will provide leadership and guidance to the implementation of AED’s program initiatives in
health, education, civil society, democracy and other areas in line with our mission to implement
solutions to critical social problems,” said George Ingram, interim president and chief executive
officer. “We are fortunate to have his knowledge of AED and development issues.”

Niblett’s 30 years of experience span the public, private, and non-profit sectors and include
expertise in consumer and social marketing, communications and public relations, and strategic
planning.

“One of my highest priorities will be to ensure that the program areas have the management systems
and procedures in place to meet the objectives of our donor’s programs and improve the lives of our
beneficiaries,” Niblett said.

Before joining AED in 1993, Niblett was deputy assistant administrator at the U.S. Agency for
International Development’s Bureau of Food and Humanitarian Assistance. He also held key
positions in marketing and communications at The Gillette Company, and served as vice president
and group manager of Cone Communications in Boston, one of the leading cause-marketing firms
in the United States. Following his work with Cone Communications, he co-founded and served as
president of Niblett/Devine, a marketing communications firm.
