PHILIPPINE SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL SYSTEM S C A L E POST-ACTIVITY

CAMPUS: CAGAYAN VALLEY REFLECTIVE-NARRATIVE REPORT

NAME OF STUDENT Vince Jethro I. Ramel BATCH 2020

TITLE OF ACTIVITY Iskolarium
ACHIEVEMENT OF TARGETED STRANDS
Summarize your activity, answering who / what / when / where / why.

The activity was a tutoring program aimed to help the lower years to further excel and do good in
their studies. It was held after school hours in available classrooms. The subjects that were included
were chemistry, physics, biology, and math, and I tutored in chemistry.
How does the activity reflect SERVICE, CREATIVITY, ACTION and/or LEADERSHIP?
The creativity part came from the creation of the learning module, as we, student tutors, added
guides on different topics and created different activities to help facilitate learning amongst our
students. The service and leadership strands were achieved by the act of teaching itself. I, as a
teacher, lead my students in our tutor sessions, and since it was an activity free of charge, it was
also my service to the students and to the community of PSHS-CVC in the important field of
education.
PROGRESS TOWARDS LEARNING OUTCOMES
Explain how you achieved the learning outcomes expected of this activity. Attach documentation where applicable.
Increased awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth.
In order to teach something, you must first be sure that you know it completely. Through teaching
chemistry topics, I acquired a feel for the chem topics I was strong in and for the ones where I
needed a bit more learning to more efficiently teach them to the students. I also learned of my
aptitude in teaching and my enjoyment of it, as shown by my interactions with my students. The
moment when they showed to me, or to anyone else, that they understood what I was saying, was
a very satisfying moment as a teacher, and as a student.
Undertaken new challenges.
I have always wanted to take a crack at teaching. Whenever we have quizzes or exams at school, I
would always help my classmates by helping them review and sometimes, even tutoring them a bit.
But I have never tried full on teaching activities such as Iskolarium. Reviewing your lesson before
teaching them, first-hand implementation during teaching, making sure your students understand
your lessons, answering the follow-up questions your students might have, are all new challenges I
had to complete. And I performed up to standards, if I say so myself.
Introduced and managed activities.
Teaching isn’t all board and talk, as you discuss your lessons you must also implement them with
activities that can help your students more completely understand the given topics. As it was a
mainly review activity, we couldn’t completely tackle every intricate detail of the lesson, but we also
had to give our students activities. Being a teacher, and as the same time a leader, I, and my co-
tutors, were the once managing all the activities inside the classroom walls, be it reciting, exercises,
or any other seatwork.
Contributed actively in group activities.
I wasn’t alone in front of the class, I had a lot of help. We are simply student tutors after all, we
didn’t guarantee that we everything there was to know about our topics. So, we used strength in
numbers, we spread the topics amongst ourselves so each of us could specialize in one of them and
be able to teach more comprehensively about said topic. And during the main teaching session
there would be two, sometimes more of us, on stage, so that anything that might happen to one of
the tutors, the other would swoop in and help. And of course, I can’t forget the supervisors. Each
subject had its own supervisor, they were in charge of keeping track of lessons, time-management
and scheduling, and talking to the students and tutors for any announcements. Truly it couldn’t
have been done by just one person, all of us were serving as cogs in one great big teaching machine.

Demonstrated perseverance and commitment in their activities.
Iskolarium lasted for 2 months, November and December. The chem subject had two meetings per
week and for every meeting we had to be there. While Iskolarium was going on, we also had other
requirements, but we had to show perseverance and commitment. I always went to the session for
our students. Once they were enrolled in our activity, I took it up as my responsibility to help them
in their studies and to educate them in chemistry and I could also say the same for my co-tutors. No
matter our scenarios outside of Iskolarium we always put a brave face in the classroom and were
prepared for out students.
Engaged with issues of global importance.

Reflected on the ethical consequence of their actions.

Developed new skills.
