ITEM 1
Explain ten (10) ethical principles to be considered with regard to
respondents when preparing to conduct a research in nursing.

1. The respondents must be informed about the research –its purpose,


use of data obtained.
2. Consent for must be signed by each participant
3. Make decision without coersion
4. Knowledge of data gathering tools of research condition
5. Participants should be told of the advantages and disadvantages
6. Participants should be told of the result of the study.
7. give reason for withhold of certain necessary information
8. Participants must be free from physical, mental harm and discomfort
9. Obtain consents from parent/guardian for vulnerable patient. Eg.
Children and disabled
10.Privacy
11.Anonymity
12.Explain to the respondents that confidentiality will be monitored
13.The research must be good for the society
14.Explain that confidentiality will be maintained
15.Explain the right to refuse
16.No prejudice behavior to participants

SCENARIO 2 ITEM 2
Mrs. Joan Harry a seventy (70) year old diabetic was admitted to the surgical
ward as an emergency, for amputation of her left leg following the
development of gangrene.

Staff Nurse Browne accompanied Mrs. Harry to the operating theatre. On


arrival there, The Operating room sister discovered that Mrs. Harry was not
properly prepared for surgery.

Determine the criteria, which should be applied when preparing Mrs. Harry
for surgery in order to prevent any legal consequences for Nurse Browne
and the institution, using the following headings

You are in charge of the clinic/health center and observe that there are a
number of deficiencies in a nurse’s functioning, which often compromise
patient safety.

As a third year student nurse you are assigned to the Medical/Surgical unit
to manage the morning shift. The bed occupancy is twenty. Three patients
are critically ill and the remaining are ambulatory.
