Objectives:

 To discuss the Islam religion

Content

Mohammed (570-632 CE)

 Was born in city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia


 He was a trader who eventually married to a rich woman
 Muslims considered him as the last prophet or “seal of the prophets”
 He started a religion that combined the teaching of Judaism and Christianity.
 According to him Jesus was only a prophet and there was no other God than
Allah.

Teachings and Beliefs

 Each Muslim should observe the code of moral behavior


 All the faithful will be blessed with eternal life. Muslims who die in defense of the
faith (jihad) are assured place in heaven.

5 Pillars of Islam

 Shahada: Testifying to God's One-ness:

The declaration states that "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His prophet."

 Salat: Prayer

It means praying five times each day. During early morning, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset
and evening.

 Zakat: Giving Charity

It means obligatory payment made annually under Islamic law on certain kinds of
property and used for charitable and religious purposes.

 Sawm: Pasting

It means to abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours.

 Hajj: Pilgrimage to Mecca

Is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the most holy city of the Muslims, and a
mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their
lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking
the journey.
