1- To help students understand the proper use of
instruments and materials used in dental lab
2- Prevent accidents cause by neglect , improper usage
of materials and equipment's
3- Prevent harm to equipment's
4- Prevent injury to the students and other dental staff
 What Is A Dental Lab
• Manufacture or customize A variety of
products to assist in provision of different
dental work
Products include Crown, bridge, denture….etc

• Rule 1
Never operate machine without training on it
because of
Dental equipment's are very expensive
it can harm your body when used badly,
Use it according to instructions

Never work alone –use buddy system
Two heads better than one
The buddy system provides better ideas on
practices on different cases
In case of accident: you got direct support from
your buddy

• Rule 3
Never work with loose hair, jewelry, etc.
Always remove or secure anything loose may be
caught in moving machine.
They can interfere with the quality of the
product.

• Never work with open toe shoes
• Never start the work if you cant do it safely
• Never work without eye protection
• Never bring hands to sharp objects

• Never create a smoky or dusty environment
they can be dangerous, so work should be
done in a well ventilated area
• Never be shy to seek help- always ask if you
unsure about the safe operation

• Never ever leave your work in a mess- always
clean up after yourself
• Never wear gloves on rotating machine
• Never leave broken or damaged equipment
unreported

• Never make adjustment on a machine when
its in operation

• Never run in the lab because there is materials
and instruments that can break if you
accidently knock into them

• Handling chemicals
• Proceed with caution, wear gloves
• If you dispose chemicals always use the
specific containers
• Never smell a chemical directly

• Handling equipment's
• Microscope should be held with both hands
• One underneath the other on the arm
• Use tongs to remove hot objects

• Fire safety
• In case of fire walk directly to the fire
extinguisher, pull the safety pin , aim the
nozzle toward the fire and push the handle
• Skills are important on using the extinguisher

• No eating drinking
• The lab tables may contain chemicals that
have not cleaned properly
• Some times food may be stored in the lab as
materials to be tested , this too shouldn't be
eaten

• Once finished your lab work clean your table
properly, remove any chemicals left by
dumping them into special containers , don’t
dump them in the sink , they may be corrosive
to the drainage pipes

• Hand washing
• Make sure to wash your hands before leaving
• Using soap and scrub your hands thoroughly
