Opening Discussion :
The discussion could begin on the following pointers -
a) Welcome to the first session of the Yuva Arohan program.
b) Posts/ activities that have been shared on the whatsapp group
c) Students’ expectations from these coming 10 days.
(Take 2-3 replies from students)
d) Importance of learning by doing
e) Naming the four competencies that will be covered.

The next 10 days will be about learning by doing. Now you would ask me what learning by
doing is. (give/ invite a few examples)
So basically whenever you do something first, think about it, see its result and then have an
“Ohhh!” moment that is what is learning by doing, you learned after you did something.
Now when we do something we always end up using some skills, like talking, thinking,
solving the problem, knowing about the advantages and disadvantages.
That is exactly what we will be doing in the next couple of days, we call them competencies -
1. Self awareness
2. Communication
3. Collaboration
4. Self belief
We will discover more about these as we go through the program.

f) Technological introduction/ queries

The facilitator may ask the following questions -
1. Are you aware of the mute option/ video on off option? How can you use them?
2. What are the other features that they can see on the software?
(Chat box, reactions, screen share)
3. Any questions or doubts on this?
Activity : My Spirit Animal

Type Individual/ Group Material Required none

Time 25 mins Medium Zoom/ Hangout + Whatsapp

Instructions : ​Once the instructions are given the students will go to their sub groups, do
the activity and then return to the main group after 10 mins. (15 mins)
● Each member has to think of a defining characteristic of self.
● Once the characteristic is thought of, the person now has to think of an animal or a
bird that closely relates to the charecteristic.
● For instance - Sparrow (because I like distant and quiet places away from the city);
Owl (because I am always awake at night, can see hidden facts); Peacock (because
I like to dance/ I love the rain), Horse (Fast, strong, dependable, trustworthy), etc.
● Ask the members to be as creative as possible while deciding their key characteristic
and then their spirit animal.
● The members discuss this within their group, by means of alphabetical order so that
each member gets to tell his/ her spirit animal.
● Once done the facilitator can ask for any member each from a group to reveal the
spirit animals of his/ her group members to the whole class.

Reflection : ​The facilitator asks the following questions for the class. (10 mins)
● Was it easy to switch from one software to the other?
● What do you think about group work?

Conclusion : ​The facilitator shares-

For the next 2-3 weeks we will be working in the same groups that we have formed. This will
require a lot of team work from your end. Like we did today, the activities in the program are
designed in such a way that you will have to switch from one software to another during the
sessions. This won't be easy, there will be a lot of challenges and we will overcome them
together and in the meantime we will have a lot of fun filled learning. Before we end the
session, do you have any questions?

Facilitator note​: Answer 2-3 doubts on the call. For the rest, ask the students to take their
time and write down the doubts. They can be clarified on the whatsapp group.

Home task​ :- The sub-group formation is very important for the success of the program
and a better coordinated learning, so let them take one day to decide if they want to
continue with these groups or if they want to change. After this they will not be allowed to
change groups. Once they have finalized the members of the group-
1) Ask them to name their group - This can become the whatsapp group name.
2) Ask them to make a logo for their group - This can be the whatsapp logo for the
group.
