Applicable Specification- ASTM/IS/ANSI B18.2.1, B18.2.3, B18.3, B18.3.1

Approved QAP.
PO specifications
Inspection & Tests:

Visual inspection- Bolts, screws, studs & stud-bolts pointed should

have workman like finish. Points shall be flat & chamfered or
rounded. Length of points shall not be less than one or two thread as
measured from extreme end.

Verification of markings: Mfr.’s identification mark or symbol,

fastener grade/class shall be applied to one end of studs 3/8”
(10mm) in diameter & larger and to the heads of bolts ¼” (6mm) in
diameter & higher.

The bolting materials including threaded bars that are furnished,

bundled & tagged or boxed the tag, the box shall carry the grade
symbol & the Mfr.’s identification mark or the name.

Review Mfr.’s test certificate for compliance to material specification

& supplementary test requirements per PO specification. The Mfr.’s
test certificate shall include the following information & test results:
Chemical analysis, product analysis (if specified), tensile properties,
Proof load for nuts, hardness test values, macro etch test (for carbon
& alloy steels), heat treatment details, the specification number year,
date and identification symbol.

Dimensional verification: The fasteners shall be inspected for

diameter, thread form, thread length, width across flat, across corner
& height of nut for conformance to PO specification

Witness PMI test on alloy steel fasteners for conformance to

specification.

Results of supplementary tests such as:

-Charpy impact test,
-Limitation on sulfur & phosphorous % in ladle analysis,
-UT examination,
-MPI Test,
-Elevated temperature tensile test,
-100% hardness tests
-Strain hardening of austenitic steels,
-Ferrite content tests,
-NACE tests
Where specified shall be reviewed for conformance to PO
specification.

Application of rust preventive coating/galvanizing where specified

shall be inspected for compliance to PO specification.

Ensure fasteners are packed/protected in accordance with PO

specification for transit damage.

Check List
1) Perform visual inspection of 100% qty.
2) Verify markings: Grade/class & Mfr.’s identification symbol.
3) Review Mfr.’s test certificate for compliance to material
specification.
4) Witness PMI on alloy steel bolts/nuts for conformance to
specification.
5) Unless other wise specified, perform dimensional inspection on
10% qty. per size & type for conformance to order specification.
The fasteners shall be inspected for diameter, thread form &
length, and width across flat, across corner & height of nut for
conformance to the tolerance specified in PO specification.
6) Verify that the Mfr.’s QC has performed 100% inspection &
documented the results.
