Week 5

Chapter 5

In this chapter, I have learned ethics are important in information technology. The
telecommunication act and communications decency act are important in the US for
protecting the wrong information. I have focused on the American rights to freedom of
religion and freedom of expression. In Australia, telecommunication act 1997 and
telecommunications act 1979 are important to control the information on the internet. As per
the research, I found that Child Online Protection Act is necessary act that charges the
penalties if any organizations upload the harmful contents or materials. This act is important
for problem solving where organizations follow this act and its ethical practices.

In this week, I have learned about the concept and theories such as Internet censorship and
Anonymity on the internet as well as John Doe Lawsuit that help to reduce the problems. The
public schools and universities follow the first amendment for securing the websites of
university. I will use this knowledge when I will play a vital role as an IT professional in the
organization in future. I will follow the rules and regulations of first amendment and theories
for solving the problems. This learning will increase my critical thinking and ethical
behaviour as well as effective decision-making skills in my professional life.

Chapter 6

In this week, I have learned about the intellectual property where it is protected through
copyright, trade secret laws and patent. I have read about the copyright act, software
copyright protection and general agreement on tariffs and trade (GATT). The government
charged the penalties if any organizations do not follow the legal rules. I have also studied
about the PRO-IP act 2008, TRIPS and digital millennium copyright act 1998. The patents
act and trade secrets are effective to manage the ethical information.

The concept and theories are effective to increase my skills in my professional life. I studied
about the reserve engineering, open source code, competitive intelligence, trademark
infringement, nominate fair use and cyber squatting are helpful in the intellectual property.
As an IT professional, I will use the knowledge for doing the ethical work in the
organizations. I will follow the legal rules and rights for starting the business in the country.
It will increase my decision-making skills and problem-solving skills where I will focus on
the rights of intellectual property.
