Edinburgh – Law LL.M.

Oftentimes, it occurs to me how the actual needs of law, rules and regulations are being
determined amidst an emerging and ever changing world. For example, internet is governed with
certain regulations, but what copyright laws are there? How certain online dealings are regulated
and legalized? How are they managed? The same thing goes with other issues related to
understanding the details of citizens, prisoners, refuges and so on. As a result, specialists and
researchers who have gone through consistent practical education in legal studies are of a great
need to fill the vacuum of law making. Encouraged by this reflection, I am making a sincere
application for admission in advanced course of law LL.M. at your greatly honored university. I
would really appreciate the opportunity by getting admitted in one of the finest universities of
United Kingdom to develop my wellbeing and boost my career development.
The core reason to choose this degree is to develop deep understandings about legal education is
that I feel field of law is both interesting and demanding. Moreover, I want to research more
about law making process and to initiate legal proceedings in a prompt way.
As per my academics, currently, I am studying BA Legal Study at University of Exeter, which is
to be completed by June 2019. The programme modules include the law of torts, land law, the
law of contract and legal foundations. Overall, these modules allowed me to cultivate the skills
of analysis, arguing and evaluation, which are considered as vitals in legal profession and
advanced studies. Now, I am convinced to pursue LL.M. to enhance my skills and knowledge in
order to attain a promising future in legal profession. Eventually, through LLM, I will be
available to join the bar and be in training with law professionals having broad knowledge in this
field. The content that I study during my undergraduate gives me lots of interest to keep study on
this major. Absorbed in Law, I am determined to enhance my further academic background in
the area, and to combine the knowledge I learned before to explore and develop this career in
depth.
Moreover, by speaking and practicing English at a university academic level, with reading,
writing and speech, as well as having already spent many years in UK for education, I believe I
would be a perfect fit within the University of Edinburgh and on the specified course. I am
highly motivated to expand my learning further and develop knowledge of culture and the
interaction within society as a whole.
Having realized that the industry jobs are highly sought after and very competitive, I started
doing internships to put myself out there in the industry. Last summer, I had a three months
internship in Denton’s Law firm (Shanghai) under the department of Capital Markets. There my
main responsibility was to communicate and respond to clients’ queries, to translate the official
documents and to draft and review contracts and other legal documents. The intern experience
gave me a great passion on the area of law. This experience also gave me the idea of how
important it is to have the knowledge of law prospects and legal terminologies. After the
internship in the law firm, I also realized that the significance for people to have the basic
knowledge of law to protect their legal rights. I wish I could help those people who not only have
the issue/problem with law/legal charge, but also those people who have the difficulty on the
period of studying this subject.
Furthermore, I was the Vice-president of the Chinese Scholars and Students Association. This
experience brings me lots of chance to communicate with my sub-committee and the stuff from
school. I am also the captain of the debate society and attained title of “best debater” last year.
This year my debate group also won the 4 th place in the debate competition, which was held at
the University of Warwick. This precious experience has greatly enhanced my communication
and negotiating skills which, I believe, would be beneficial for my further study in law.
Situated in one of the world’s notable strategic & commercial hub, the University of Edinburgh
is a highly anticipated place for me to study in and pursue my career advancements in the field of
law. The university prepares the students with hypothetical and practical course work and well-
equipped facilities to obtain realistic court and legal practicing experience. I truly believe that the
sound academic environment of the institution would authorize me to learn methodically with
my obsessed capabilities and solid strength of mind. Furthermore, using the professional moot
courts, model courts and standard facilities at the Campus like legal research libraries and
availability of legal case studies, I will get a strong prominence on learning through “hands-on”
practice in small research groups.
The intention to choose the United Kingdom as the country I want to study in is that I have
always venerated its deep-rooted customs not only in education but also in culture, religion,
sports and politics. The country features an enormous range of seminars, conferences, and other
events on issues related to the programme. Besides, I have studied in University of Exeter, so I
am very much familiar with the teaching formats and research methods in British style. These
provide a means for students to expand their knowledge and extend their professional networks.
With respect to my future plan, professionally, for short-term, I will be working as a legal
consultant or a barrister in the several legal forums and keep on writing and enhancing my legal
practices. For long-term, I will be working out for being a barrister or to join teaching profession
at university or college level or join International legal corporate enterprise. Vocationally, I will
carry on experiential research and development in theoretical legal studies after graduation. By
attending your graduate programme, I aim to understand how court mechanisms work together to
influence the development of modern legal aspects and how to improve changing trends of legal
society’s consciousness as per the outcomes of advanced legal practices.
