Preparing for the course

Although all material will be explained starting from basics, if possible, participants can go through video lectures of Prof. Aditya
Jagannatham below to learn more about some of the basic concepts for the short course.
Video lectures 1-8 on Diversity properties of Multi-antenna Systems and lectures 20-24 on MIMO Systems in course on "Advanced 3G & 4G
Wireless Mobile Communications". In addition, if time permits, please also briefly go through Lectures 13-18 on Multi-Antenna Channel
Estimation in course on "Estimation for Wireless Communications MIMO OFDM Cellular And Sensor Networks".

A MATLAB Project Course on the Latest MIMO Technologies for 5G Networks and IoT technologies is being
organized by IIT Kanpur from July 27th to August 03rd, 2020. This course is dedicated to thoroughly covering all
the theoretical and practical aspects of the latest 5G technologies such as Massive MIMO, mmWave MIMO,
NOMA, Cooperative Communication, Cognitive Radio and IoT. The course is focused toward B.Tech/ M.Tech/
Ph.D. students, faculty members and industry personnel interested in learning about different 5G technologies for
professional advancement. Participants can work on MATLAB projects on all the 5G technologies and will also be
given detailed lecture slides, tutorial assignments, solutions and program code. Special sessions will be conducted to
help students prepare for interviews/ competitive exams in ECE and inform about education opportunities available

Welcome to this 8-day online course focusing on the key signal processing
and optimization strategies for 5G MIMO wireless networks based on the
latest Massive MIMO, mmWave MIMO, NOMA, Cooperative Communi-
cation, Cognitive Radio and IoT technologies. The central goals of 5G
networks of the future are to achieve data rates in excess of 10 Gbps, sup-
porting dense connectivity of up to 1 million sensors per square kilometer,
and ultra-low latencies lower than a millisecond. These technologies enable
the realization of several new applications such as V2V (vehicle-to-
