1. Wintersportorte

In Deutschland

1. Winter sport locations

2. Winter is not just the time for Christmas and New Year's parties. For many people, the
winter months are the best time for traveling. While some use their holidays to escape
Germany's cold weather, there are also just as many who seek out the cold and prefer to
spend their winter holiday in snow and ice.

3. For a winter holiday like this, you also don't have to go that far at all. In Germany there
are many places that offer a variety of things particularly for winter sports fans.

4. Among the most well-known winter sport locations in Bavaria are Oberstdorf and
Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Oberstdorf is located in the Allgäu Alps and is known for its
large selection of winter sports. There you can go skiing or snowboarding on the
Nebelhorn, and those who enjoy hiking and skating also come. Those who prefer to
participate passively can watch ski-jumping as the skiers fly off the jump, since in
Oberstdorf, every year begins with the four-jump tournament, which is one of the most
important competitions in ski-jumping.

5. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is also located in the Alps and is just as well-known. Together

with Munich, it is even applying to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. The Zugspitze in
Garmisch offers ideal winter sporting opportunities. Whether it's downhill skiing, cross-
country skiing, skating, hiking, or snowboarding, there's something for every winter sport
fan in Garmisch.

6. Even if you're from northern Germany, and you don't want to travel as far as the Alps,
you can still have a wonderful winter holiday in Germany. In that case, the best options
are the Thuringian Forest and the Sauerland, since they're just about in the middle of
Germany, and easy for the northerners to reach. Both areas offer numerous
opportunities and places where you can try out various alpine sports.

7. So, are you ready for ice and snow now? Just remember to bundle up well, and don't
forget your hat and gloves!
