The NEXT-C project is developing two flight-qualified ion thrusters and power processing units based on NASA's Evolutionary Xenon Thruster (NEXT) for use on future NASA missions. The NEXT thruster demonstrated world-record performance during an 8-year long-duration test, exceeding its design goals by thruster more than 900 kg of xenon and achieving over 35 MN-sec of total impulse. Under the NEXT-C project, Aerojet Rocketdyne is modifying the NEXT design and completing development testing to deliver two flight thrusters and PPUs to support the DART mission and an Air Force technology demonstration. The goal is for NEXT to become a commercial product available to NASA and non-NASA customers upon completion
