maybe this can help you...

an instruction from D0rka

Okay LISTEN...
If you're getting errors with Rosetta Stone when starting up the app, you're either
blocking it with your firewall (DON'T DO IT) or it has access to internet some
how..
1. Do NOT block the application with firewall (you will eventually get those error
messages if you do..)
2. Uninstall it
3. Clean all traces of it
4. apply the stuff below into your HOSTS file, and THEN install Rosetta Stone
(again).
DO THE FOLLOWING:
Add following lines to your HOSTS file:
#16.217.0.0 = *.ip.att.net
127.0.0.1 16.217.0.0
127.0.0.1 rosettastone.com
127.0.0.1 launch.rosettastone.com
127.0.0.1 amp.rosettastone.com
127.0.0.1 resources.rosettastone.com
127.0.0.1 updates.rosettastone.com
now you can allow Rosetta Stone to connect to internet, it's not going
anywhere else than to your own computer.. :-)

Above text has been posted before I've just reformatted it for better clarity.

Now, for those of you looking for the language packs, they can all be d/l directly
