Task 1 – Client Requirements
Client requirements are the needs that a business enterprise feels it is missing. Hence, request for
implementation of a system that will address these needs. User requirements are broadly classified as
functional and non-functional requirements. Functional requirements are the requirements that the
developed system has to perform. On the other hand, non-functional requirements are the
requirements that express the behaviour of the system to be developed. That is to say, they measure
the quality of the system being developed or on that is in operation.

Below are specific client requirements:

Departments: The organization contains four different departments configuration, which named as
sales, operations, management, and exploration. However, the configuration of departments network
should offer highly scalable network connection up to 510 user’s devices.

Network devices: As per the basic analysis, there are 48 PCs and some additional server devices required
for better communication. Hence DT also mentions that management department should not access
server and another department users can get efficient services.

IP allocation: Henceforth, the communication process over different networks done with the help of
IPv4 allocation. However, to allocate unique IP addresses 172.16.0.0 block used for branch office and
head office network is configured with the help of 172.20.0.0. There is some DHCP pools are configured
to assign an appropriate IP address.

Routing: The various routing protocols are available to make communication possible between different
networks. Now, for that here OSPF dynamic routing configured at all routers.

ISP connection: To connect both offices there some ISP network used, which known as Telstra ISP.

Task 2 – Network Description and WAN functionality

Our network to be designed will be based on the functionality of intranet access, internet access, DHCP
services, email and messaging, VPN and wireless network. These are the key services that are required
by our client.

Now as per the client requirement there is a need to implement some ISP network configuration with
the appropriate type of media. The configuration of two different branches is done with the help of
Telstra ISP. Henceforth, to implement LAN network configuration there is various switch devices are
used as per separate department’s needs. The connection of a LAN network is done with the 2800
series devices and some VPN or IPSEC configuration are done between the two branch office networks.
Now on the LAN side, there is some VLANS configuration perform for better outcomes. Hence for the
wan network connection and remote users, there is some IP allocation done with the appropriate NAT
or PAT configuration. The security of a network interface is to make sure with the access control list
allocation. Hence as per the requirement initially all departments contains sufficient IP address for 12
PCs and server. Now, for future use, there is some additional IP allocation done with the 512 PCs
connection. the allocation process for all PCs is done with the help of DHCP protocols.
Task 3 – Costed Bill of materials
Material Quantity Cost per item (₹) Total Amount(₹)
Server 4 1005 4020
Router 1 700 700
Switches 4 76 304
Desktops 192 560 107,520
Patch cable 52 12 624
Serial cable 4 47 188
Total Cost 113356
It should be remembered that the cost of cabling is not included in the above-costed bill of materials
because it has been done by someone else.

Task 4 - IP Addressing Documentation

IP addresses refer to the allocation of IP addresses to a network system. Network addressing scheme
specifies the network address to be used, broadcast address, some allocated IP addresses, default
gateway if any, reserved IP addresses if any exists, and the valid range of IP addresses that can be
assigned to workstations[ CITATION And13 \l 1033 ].

Device naming scheme is an important aspect in a networked environment. The naming scheme should
be done in a manner that makes it easier for a new person to interact with the network will have an
easy time to identify the networking device without a lot of struggle. Our naming scheme will follow
location_nameofdevice naming scheme technique[ CITATION Tom14 \l 1033 ]. Assuming that we have
been provided with an IP address of 172.16.17.0/23 by our service provider, our network will be
subnetted to give the below IP addressing table.
VLAN Allocated IP VLAN Network Slas Mask Usable Range Broadcast Wildcard
Name addresses ID Address h
Sales 510 2 172.16.0.0 /23 255.255.254.0 172.16.0.1 - 172.16.1.25 0.0.1.255
172.16.1.254 5
Operations 510 3 172.16.2.0 /23 255.255.254.0 172.16.2.1 - 172.16.3.25 0.0.1.255
172.16.3.254 5
Management 510 4 172.16.4.0 /23 255.255.254.0 172.16.4.1 - 172.16.5.25 0.0.1.255
172.16.5.254 5
Exploration 510 5 172.16.6.0 /23 255.255.254.0 172.16.6.1 - 172.16.7.25 0.0.1.255
172.16.7.254 5

Now after the allocation of specific IP subnet blocks for every department's network, there is a need to
allocate proper naming to every device. The allocation of proper naming can provide an easy way for
troubleshooting. Henceforth, here to allocate appropriate name the used format is branch name_
device name_ device number.

Task 5 – Breakdown Structure

Below table gives a breakdown of activities to be performed

Network Development Project

Activity No Statement No Of days
1 Meeting 2
2 Requirements analysis 1
3 Network Design 4
4 Purchase of hardware materials 1
5 Deployment 3
6 Testing 2
7 User Training 2

After the completion of performance of specific tasks, there is a need to configure some network
devices with a specific configuration. Now as a first requirement there is a need to configure some IP
addresses at router devices, which can provide a communication ability with the different networks. The
head office network is configured with the 172.20.0.0 block and branch office network configure with
172.16.0.0 IP address blocks. Now after the make virtual network for every department, there is a need
to configure switch devices with the specific VLAN configurations. The inter VLAN routing configuration
can make communication possible between two different VLANs. Once the ROAS and VLAN
configuration performed at network devices, there is a need to allocate a proper IP address and that
process is done with the DHCP pool configuration at the gateway router. However, the communication
between different networks is possible with the help of routing parameter and for that, there is OSPF
routing is configured. Once the all network setup is done, then there is a need to configure some access
list and NAT protocols at gateway router for security reasons.

Task 6 – Potential Safety hazards

Below are the security hazards for our network development

a) Chassis lifting
b) Power disconnection
c) Jewellery
d) Ground connection
e) Power supply warning
f) WAN interface card insertion
g) Irrelevant battery backup may damage system
h) The distance over 100 meters may corrupt data packets
i) Due to environmental condition data fluctuation happen
j) Uninsulated metal may cause shock

Task 7 – Power and data quote

To: Jack Crusher

According to the quote from Airy Electricals, the quote is commendable. Henceforth, as per the
additional requirement so power outputs, there is just a need to implement some sockets with 15w and
15A. The proposed hardware can provide power output capacity up to 85V to 256V. Now on another
side, there is also some cooling system instalment requirement for appropriate network devices. Thus,
these are some additional requirement that expected with the next proposal.

Task 13 –WAN Deployment

NBN is an Australian National project that ensures that there is internet access infrastructure to all of its
citizens. The government uses ISPs to install and manage the internet. Our network will be attached to
this network. Hence, to connect both offices network through the ISP media, there is a need to connect
it with the serial interface of gateway routers. The ISP network of NBN organization may offer some
large distance office connectivity with the secure data transmission path. The connection between
different branches is done with the help of VPN or private network virtual transmission link, also, to
make connection establishment between that branch there some unique passwords are configured.
Henceforth, the proposed ISP network should also provide some scalability and availability of time for
communication. Hence as part of the analysis process of the ISP network, there is some data plan
identity, which is as per mention below:

The annual cost of the plan Data transmission speed

50$ 5 Mbps
75$ 10 Mbps
82.55$ 20 Mbps
95$ 25 Mbps
112$ 30 Mbps
125$ 40 Mbps
175$ 1 Gbps
203.5$ 2 Gbps

Now, among from above various plans, we choose a 25Mbps plan with the annual cost of 95$. The
selected data transmission plan may support all web-based and cloud-based application services with
the specific secure transmission. Thus, these are some NBN plan details that should follow by the
organization.
