Assalamualaikum and good afternoon Madam Farah and everyone.

My name is Ayse Gul

Uzundemir and I will be hosting today`s Edutalk on the methods of achieving national
integration among ethnic groups in Malaysia. I have here today 4 speakers, namely Sanisha,
Shaba, Yusof and Maryam. Considering that Malaysia is an ethnically pluralistic society, one
of the Malaysian government's key ongoing tasks has been to create a country that is
harmonious, multicultural, and democratic and shares a common identity and values as a
Malaysian nation. This target has been a government priority from independence to the
present, and is expressed in the need for a united Malaysian nation to grow.
This essential feature of national integration is a core part of state politics as the country faces
a dynamic social environment with a multi-racial and fragmented population in which the
different ethnic groups bear their own cultures, languages, identities and values. This
condition can in many respects be seen as a legacy from British colonialism. We will try to
discuss in detail on this today. We will touch into:
1. Definition of integration and unity
2. How unity links to integration
3. Rukun negara implementation
4. NEP
5. National education policy
6. NCP and national language
7. Merging of political parties
8. Challenges in overcoming national integration
9. Recommendations on how to solve it

Let me start with first question

1. Can you please tell us what is actually integration and unity mean?
Thank you very much for your clear and deep explanation.

2. Secondly can you kindly explain on how are unity and integration linked to one
another?
As everyone know that Malaysian government has actually come up with 8 approaches or
strategies in order to integrate races in Malaysia and they are the:
Rukun Negara; (ii) New Economic Policy; (iii) National Culture Policy; (iv) National
language; (v) Department for National Unity; (vi) Merger of political parties; (vii)
Integration of territories; and (viii) Creation of the Ministry for National Unity and
Community Development.
Let us discuss some of them today for a better understanding.
3. Can you tell us a bit about the principles and implementation of Rukun Negara?
Thank you for your clear explanation.
4.  Let's talk about the NEP. How does this policy contribute to the integration of the
many ethnic group in Malaysia?

I am much clear now on the NEP now.

5. the national education system is one of the most important mediums of making sure
the children of this nation receive knowledge that is meant for all races. So how
exactly did this system evolve?

Let’s continue with the next question.

6.  Why was the NCP drafted and how does it serve to maintain national identity among
the international community?

Thank you!

7. Speaking of national identity, Dr Mahathir had once said "Bahasa Melayu is only for
the Malays, but Bahasa Malaysia is for all the races in Malaysia?" What is your
opinion on this statement?

Very impressive explanation, and now lets touch into the merging of the political
parties.
8.  How have politics influenced this process of national integration?

9. Can u tell us about the establishment of the Ministry of National Unity and what was
its aims?

Lets now touch on the challenges that were faced during that time.

10. like any change, what do you think are the challenges that need to be overcome to
achieve national integration?
And lastly

11. How do you propose these challenges can be solved?

I would like to thank all of you for sharing your knowledge as well giving a very beneficial
importation regarding the history of Malaysia. In conclusion for this discussion, I'd like to say
that Malaysia has incredible potential to become a united country with a confident society
that has complete control over a competitive economy.
To achieve this, every citizen should put aside all forms of differences between them, going
forward. I would also like to congratulate Malaysia for its achievement of being a very
multicultural country with a peace and harmony. Once again thank you very much and I am
ending this talk show Assalamualaikum and have a good day…………….
