Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)

Lesson Idea Name:

- Create a “Book” of Rhyming Words
Content Area:
- English Language Arts
Grade Level(s):
- 2nd Grade
Content Standard Addressed:
- ELAGSE2RL4:
Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply
rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
Technology Standard Addressed:
- 3: Knowledge Constructor:
Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce
creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.
Selected Technology Tool:
- Microsoft PowerPoint
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):
- NA
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating X Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

X Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-driven.
Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

- The activity that I have planned is intended to reinforce their knowledge of rhyming. They will be
choosing the tool on which they create their project. They also get to choose what words they will be
using and describing on each slide. Along with choosing the words that they will use and the tool they
will create the assignment on, they get to choose all the formatting and designing as long as they
make sure to include everything that they are supposed to. The amount of creative freedom should
be enough to encourage the students to continue with the assignment.
Lesson idea implementation:
- The students will be creating an e-book of sorts listing different rhyming words. The teachers will
assist the students in any way that they need. I will introduce the project by showing them an
example that I created that goes along the same lines. This assignment should take a max of two days.
This time frame is the main, if not only, restriction on the assignment. The students will be assessed
by whether or not they include everything that is required of them.

How well they do on the assignment and how much they include in their assignment determines how
much they are learning. If they can successfully portray the information, it will help the learning

process of themselves and others. They are able to include as many words and details as they want as
long as they submit the assignment on time. I will conclude the lesson by having the students submit
their assignments and then present what they have created to the class. I will grade them on
everything that they include and what they may have missed. They will receive their grades and any
comments that they have gotten on their assignments.
Reflective Practice:
- This assignment could be modified to impact student learning even more. More content or steps
could be added to make it more knowledge filled. An idea to further extend the lesson would be for
the students to write some poems or rhyming sentences. The students can use an online thesaurus,
dictionary, or word generator. These tools will help them come up ideas if they are struggling.
