4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity
The teacher asks a volunteer student to recapitulate the previous lesson. Then she/he
presents the objectives of the lesson for the day and and then lets the students copy the
short paragraph which contains sentences with common errors in subject-verb agreement.
(Refer to Appendix A)
The students are asked to work in pairs to discuss if the sentences were written correctly.
They are given 2-3 minutes to do it.
10 minutes The teacher elicits from the students their observations, with particular focus on the subjects
and the verbs of the sentences. Then she/he presents the version of the paragraph that
shows grammatically correct sentences(Refer to Appendix A) and discusses the rules
concerning subject-verb agreement:

4.2 Activity The teacher presents and discusses the following rules on subject-verb agreement:
* the expression "a number" is plural, while the expression "the number" is singular
* there is, there are
* Intervening words, phrases, and clauses
a. with, together with, including, accompanied by, in addition to, or as well as
b. prepositional phrase
20 minutes c. relative clause
After having the discussion of the teacher, the students are asked to answer the
CONTROLLED GRAMMAR PRACTICE, Task 4, Learning Package in English 7, page 9.
(Refer to Appendix B). Answers will be written in 1/2 sheet of paper.

4.3 Analysis
The teacher asks the students to explain their answers to Task 4, using the rules on subject-
verb agreement that were already discussed by the teacher. Then the teacher processes the
10 minutes students' responses.

4.4 Abstraction
The teacher asks the students to give the rules on subject-verb agreement with the
following:
Sentences with the expressions, "a number" and "the number"; sentences with intervening
words, phrases, and clauses, with, together with, accompanied by, in addition to, or as well
as, prepositional phrases and relative clauses
Then the teacher gives feedback on the answers of the students to Task 4. (Refer to
Appendix B for Answer Key).
The teacher asks the students to give the rules on subject-verb agreement with the
following:
Sentences with the expressions, "a number" and "the number"; sentences with intervening
words, phrases, and clauses, with, together with, accompanied by, in addition to, or as well
5 minutes as, prepositional phrases and relative clauses
Then the teacher gives feedback on the answers of the students to Task 4. (Refer to
Appendix B for Answer Key).

4.5 Application Let the the students formulate 1-2 sentences regarding how to maintain hazard-free and
6 minutes clean environment. They have to share it orally to the class.
4.6 Assessment

4.8 Concluding Activity The teacher encourages the students to apply their knowledge about subject-verb
agreement by speaking English not only in English class but also in other subject areas to
