FOR EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT

ASSESSMENT 1: INDIVIDUAL REPORT ON THE
ORGANIZATION “JAM”

STUDENT NAME- RAHUL BHAMBOO

STUDENT UID- 1827160
COLLEGE NAME- PODAR WORLD COLLEGE

INTRODUCTION:
The company JAM is a vegetarian restaurant which was founded in 2012 that has a mission
which is to captivate our patrons with the best taste but also make use of the freshest available
ingredients in ultra modern kitchens. The vision is to be one of the top chain vegetarian
restuarant having presence worldwide, serving high quality and hygienic food. Lastly the values
of the resturant to make high quality food, create a hygienic environment and to rspect all
stakesholders.

EXISTING ORGANOGRAM:

A type of organization structure whereby a firm outsources most of its major processes to
different companies and coordinates their activities from a small headquarter organizations.
However, the this structure worked for the company for 2 years. But we plan to change it due to
the following factors such as coordination problems, loss of control among the employees which
causes a lost of contractors due to lack of loyalty and lack of security and this can impact the
profits directly and causing them to go down. There are high chances of lack of secrecy which
eventually leads to the profits going down.

SUGGESTED ORGANOGRAM:

However, we feel that if our company changes their structure to a matrix structure which is a
combination of structure of a tall and a function of a flat. This combination would help the
organization achieve higher efficiency, readiness and a quick market adaptation. Another
advantage of our company changing to a matrix structure is that there would be faster
communication, faster decision making which makes it a lower formalized structure which will
make the workers feel motivated as they would be able to contribute their ideas and also there
would be high specialization which would make the company and all these factors would lead
the company to having high profits. The faster decision making and communication leads to the
processes to happen faster making it profitable for the firm.

Henri Fayol’s 14 Scientific Management Approach (1916) :

Authority & Responsibility is given to the employees freely after the action is been take the
employee is responsible for what the outcome is. Division of work is the work that is given to the
employees that will specific to each employee for a better specialization.
Remuneration is payed to the employee’s monetary and non-monetary basis.Initiative- Since
JAM encourages and motivates the workers for putting in their inputs, it aims to achieve high
level of initiative, as the opinions and point of view of all employees would be taken into
consideration, as each region would have some independent decision making.

ORGANISATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS SUGGESTED:

Achievement of objectives of JAM aims to be a pure vegetarian restaurant around the country
and also be the quickest service restaurant, and provide with the best hygienic food.
JAM would hire highly specialised chefs and waiters to meet the maximum level of efficiency as
the chefs would be working in the ultra modern kitchens. Since to sustain to in the market, and
not wasting food, JAM would like to distribute the fresh leftover to the poor people, and the ones
who are in need. Customers are a major influence to JAM, so we would be providing with
personalised discounts to regular customers , and also promotional emails, and newsletters.
External Benchmarking- JAM would do a strategic market survey and have a customisation of
food according to each region of vegetarian restaurant chain we are into. We aim to spread
across the entire nation, and also reach out to few other countries worldwide, for ex, dubai , sri
lanka , nepal, bangladesh, we aim to grow in next 5 years. JAM would be providing product
bundling, like if a customer buys a diet salad, it would give 30% of on the fresh juices. JAM tries
to maintain its standards and has aims for being the most reputed chain of restaurant for
hygenic and tasty food for its customers.

GREINER’S GROWTH MODEL (1972):

JAM deciding to be a completely vegetarian restaurants provide with more vegan options as
well, also it would be one of the most quickest service restaurant which could be a advantage
for the company to enter a new market. It would be following a umbrella structure, that is the
tasks would be allocated by the top level management to the middle level management and
some of the decisions would be taken by the middle level and then passed onto the lower level
of management. Each state managers and region heads would be reporting about the progress
and the customisation needed for each region to the head office. There would be strict rules and
regulations and the communication needs to be more flexible as JAM would have its restaurants
all over the country. Fringe benefits, bonuses, reward schemes could be provided to head
managers to encourage teamwork and also improve and enhance teamwork. It would be aiming
to merge with various sunrise companies, which could be possible threat in the near future, as
that would also help to cut down on the competitors.

CONCLUSION:

As the current structure wasn't working out for JAM, they have changed to Matrix structure to
function in a better way.Suggested that Henry Fayol’s 14 scientific management approach will
help in Division of work, helps in employee initiative, Remuneration of employees and will keep
balance of Authority & Responsibility. Organizational effectiveness gives a better idea on how
the organization needs work to achieve organizational effectiveness. The European based
theory helps the organization to be creative, it increases the level of efficiency, works on the
Vision, mission, goal & objective and Goes well with the Matrix Structure and also follows a
Person culture.
