From May of 2015 to May of 2019, Marissa Roth was a passenger aboard the Queen Mary II on
seven transatlantic crossings between New York City and Southampton, England. These
crossings mark what could be considered her allegorical return journeys to Europe in homage to
her mother and father, and, during the westward crossings, a retracing of their destiny. Fleeing
what would become World War II and the Holocaust, her parents independently left their
respective homes in Eastern Europe and sailed to America in late October of 1938 aboard the
original Queen Mary, on which they met and fell in love.

In 2015 Maria Dabrowski decided to journey to Ukraine together with her mother. There her
mother met family members on her father's side and connected with her father's past for the first
time. This publication consists of a collection of photographs that were taken in the years from
2013 through 2016, wherein Dabrowski documents a personal investigation into the "roots" of her
family that brought her to both Poland and Ukraine. It is a poignant and very personal narrative
which reveals a story of expatriation, war crimes, and traumas. A conversation with her
grandfather about his memories of Poland's dark past completes the story. The title translates as
"reveal" or "open".

When the Jewish-Polish photographer Dawid Szymin adopted American citizenship in 1942, he
became David Seymour. He photographed a young girl known as Tereska in Warsaw in
September 1948, during an assignment from UNICEF to report on Europe's children after the
war. Many assumed she was a concentration camp survivor, and the tangled chalk lines of her
famous drawing represented barbed-wire fences. Seymour died in 1956, but in 2017 steps were
undertaken to discover Tereska's identity and story, with success. The extraordinary
circumstances of the parallel lives of girl and photographer inspired this story, with anecdotes
from a variety of people who knew them.

Xiaoxiao Xu embarks on a journey of 25,000 kilometres to document the lives of the people along
the foot of the Great Wall of China. Contrary to popular belief, the wall is not a single, continuous
structure, but rather a collection of walls and fortifications built during various Chinese dynasties.
Her images show that, despite its decline in some of these parts, a lively relationship remains
between the wall and local populations who honour and protect it. In the process, Xu attempts to
discover the impact of fast-growing China on this historic site. The villages along the Great Wall
still live by ancient traditions, but these are gradually disappearing. She captures this visual
transformation.

Issei Suda made a name for himself in the Japanese photographic world through his 6 x 6 black-
and-white prints that bare the unexpected-and often unsettling-dimensions lurking in, otherwise,
perfectly mundane subjects. Now, a new collection focuses on a perhaps less celebrated, but no
less arresting side of his art: his color photography. The roughly 150 works cover 'Fragment of
Everyday Life (1983-1984)', Suda's first series of medium-format colour photography, and four
Polaroid series from the turn of this century including 'Spot', which seeks to capture the "residues"
lingering at the sites of past incidents.

King Leopold II of Belgium was proclaimed the founder and sole owner of the Congo Free State
in 1885. Convincing the colonial European nations to commit to common trade and improving the
lives of native inhabitants, he meanwhile extracted a fortune from the territory through an
administration marked by forced labour, torture, and murder. Oliver Leu presents an eclectic
collection of visual research, a reflection on both the visible representations of colonialism in
Belgium today and the hidden traces of its gruesome past. He portrays an ambitious ruler with
delusions of grandeur, showing the influence the exploitation of Leopold's private colony still has
on contemporary Belgium.

In many beliefs there is an alternate world that exists between what we are taught is real and
what lies beyond. Piotr Zbierski seeks to explore pathways between these two realities by crafting
an impressionistic visual record of humanity. He has travelled extensively, focusing on a number
of different communities, photographing and paying homage to their ceremonies and daily rituals.
For many of the tribes, these traditions act as a bridge between material reality and a spiritual
understanding of the wider world. In his practice he considers how different cultures express and
communicate their ancient ancestral connections to nature and this experience of an 'in-between'
world.

Collaborators since 2013, Jean-Marc Caimi and Valentina Piccinni mix documentary photography
with a more personal and intimate style of making images. 'Gule Gule' is a journey through the
many microcosms of Istanbul, and departs from stereotypical touristic images to discover the
more intimate and surprising aspects of the city. The series documents the profound changes
taking place in Turkish society, immersing its audience in realities such as gentrification,
marginalisation of the poorer classes, growing discrimination against homosexuality, massive
influxes of Syrian refugees, and the position of the Kurdish community. With a text by Brad
Feuerhelm.

The picture postcard evokes a holiday spirit, acts as a souvenir, kindles wanderlust, and can
temporarily satisfy the yearning to experience foreign places. Beat Schlatter is one of
Switzerland's best-known cabaret performers and actors, but also a passionate postcard
collector. The majority of his extensive collection dates from between the 1960s and 1980s, a
time often considered the pinnacle of European tourism. Schlatter selected more than 400
postcards from his collection for this publication, organising them in twelve pictorial chapters
(hotels, beach promenades, gardens and fountains, cityscapes by night, Alpine roads, etc.) that
will spark curiosity and wonder.

Noud and Ruby decided to spruce up their living room in 1965 by refurnishing the fireplace and
adding a new sofa, a tufted corner piece in a classy shade of beige velveteen; not a right-angled
design, but a soft, sensual curve snaking around the corner of the room. Noud and Ruby's
redecorating set the scene for what would become a sincere and erotic collaboration between the
couple that spanned almost ten years and documented both fashion and fantasy. But the pictures
were never intended to be revealed outside their living room. This prompts us to question who we
are behind closed doors and what sides of our identities we choose to conceal, even if they give
us pleasure or satisfaction.

Inspired by science but without scientific pretensions, Dutch photographer Anne Geene's
personal observations are selected and captured with meticulous precision and attention to detail.
She investigates the surprising wealth of flora and fauna found in an allotment garden (no. 235,
with an area of 245 square metres) located in Rotterdam, one of the most urbanised areas of the
Netherlands. It contains leaves, flowers, insects, amphibians and more, painstakingly
documented using techniques ranging from salt printing to microphotography. Geene's art of
observation is masterful, and has produced a complete compendium in this single volume: a
photographic universe.

With this project, Alexis Pazoumian documents the history of Sacha and his community of
reindeer herders, whose future is more than uncertain. Isolation and extreme temperatures make
working conditions difficult, and today there are fewer and fewer reindeer herders. The daily life of
these hunters is changing due to climate change, bringing unpredictable weather and higher
temperatures, rising 4°C over the last 40 years. Nomadic herders are not aware of such figures,
but they are the first to observe how environmental changes and the warming trend has dramatic
consequences on their lives and animals.

monochrome and color images, captured on multiple camera formats over a period of six
years. From Now On focus on themes such as transition and memory and investigates issuesof
isolation, alienation and nature. The book moves in a space of mysticism and poetry and can be
read as stories, rituals and attempts to map out the necessities needed to survive as a human
being.
