Master Thesis Project, Norton Straw Consultant, Aberdeen June 2016 – Aug 2016
I was engaged as a mentee in collaboration with the consultant company which specialized in Computational Fluid
Dynamics analysis. This project is about sand erosion modelling which focused on the elbow of gas pipeline. I used
Star CCM+ software to perform the simulation. During the project, I was actively involved in discussion with two
engineers from the company as well as my lecturer supervisor to determine the way it is conducted.
Instrument Engineer, JFE, Jakarta May 2014 – May 2015 During
my one-year time of working there, I have been engaged in two FEED projects and a retrofitting project. Those two
FEED projects are about pipeline and fuel terminal construction respectively with I was involved in designing the
control system and plant instruments. I also got engaged in a project of retrofitting the system routing of an offshore
platform, which is to change the pneumatic to electricalconfiguration.
Work-Related Skills
Leadership I have experiences in some leadership position during my college time and also in works.
Being an awardee of LPDP Scholarship put me in a position where leadership has taken
its part when I was abroad, which is representing your country at international event.
Meanwhile, I have been in leadership position when I was working as instrument
supervisor, leading a team of maintenance staff.
Analytical During my work as an instrument engineer, I have been involved at analyzing many
configuration design for instrument panel containing cabinet marshalling, junction box for
instrument wiring and making recommendations for my project team. In CFD, I am also
highly involved in analyzing cases with must be executed with correct judgments in the
form of equation methods with relevant parameters. I have developed these skills further
through complex practical and laboratory exercises during my bachelor and master
program. This included tension analysis on riser, stress analysis on pipeline, multiphase
flow analysis on flow assurance for flowline as well as the calculation and modelling for
those mentioned subjects.
Teamwork I have been involved in a variety of successful teams at work, during my studies, and
through my organization and outside event activities. At my previous work, I have been
appointed to do a field survey representing my department, instrument & control. During
that survey, I was involved in meeting with other departments and the client to formulate
the scope of work and discussing current conditions hence providing the client with the
best solution. During my bachelor studies, I also have been in charged as a chief for
graduation event in my faculty which highly contributed to the development of my
leadership skill.
Communication I have developed excellent written communication skills through my academic work. This
included the business proposal on my business plan project for which my group became a
finalist on the competition. I also frequently report and made presentations on my finding
data from the client to colleagues and managers.
Business Awareness I have taken part in business plan competition during my bachelor study for which
my group became a finalist. My idea was to create a start-up business in renewable
energy sector. This gave me a great experience and knowledge of how to do business
based on my engineering expertise.
Additional Work Experience
Music Event Organizer: I have been involved in doing art decoration for music event during my school time. I was
a member of construction division who built the mascot and big statue as the event icon.
Reading: I enjoy reading about future engineering concept book as I idolize Elon Musk and Steve Jobs as two
visionaries whom I admire for their ability to think into the future.

The erosion rate on two-elbow pipeline is investigated in this thesis. Some formulas in DNV
for calculating the erosion rate in pipeline bend are used as references for both empirical
and numerical method. Microsoft Excel is used as a tool for doing the empirical method,
whereas the CFD software STAR CCM+ is used as computational tool for doing the numerical
method.
In order to gain a comprehensive understanding about the sand erosion phenomena in two-
elbow pipe, there are several comparisons of calculation performed in this work. They are
the comparison of erosion rate calculation between the first elbow and the second elbow,
the comparison of empirical and numerical calculation, the trend of erosion rate towards the
variation of pipe curvature radius and distance between elbow, and also the comparison of
erosion rate calculation between the S-bend and the U-bend.
After all calculations are conducted, it is known that the maximum erosion rate on the
second elbow is generally lower than the one on the first elbow, whereas the erosion pattern
on both elbow is also different from each other. Meanwhile, The CFD method is proven to be
more realistic rather than manual calculation using DNV formulas for two-elbow pipe. The
pipe curvature radius and distance between elbow also involve in affecting the change of
erosion rate on both elbow. Furthermore, the erosion rate result on the U-bend pipe is
greater than the one in S-bend pipe, whereas it can be concluded that the V-shaped erosion
scars are common to be found in flow consisted of two phases of substance.
