Force and Laws of Motion

1 What are vector quantities? Give one example. (1)

2 The data regarding a motion of two objects A and B are given. (1)

Distance travelled by A(m) Distance travelled by B(m)

TIME
9.30 AM 4 5
9.35 AM 6 10
9.40 AM 10 15
9.45 AM 13 20
9.50 AM 15 25
Which of these has uniform motion. Why?

3 Vijay is moving in a circular path of radius 10 cm. What will be his displacement when he (1)
completes 2 1/2 round of the circular path?

4 a. When does the average velocity of an object become zero? (2)

b) Give one example for this case.

5 Devi starts her journey on a car from her house and travels a distance of 6 Km towards east (3)
where her friend Sushma lives. She picks up Sushma and moves towards school which is located
at a distance of 8km towards north with respect Sushma’s house. What is the distance travelled
and displacent of Devi?

6 An object is moving in a straight line from A to B. (5)

a. What can you say about the magnitude of average velocity and average speed of the
object in this case? Which of these is a scalar quantity?
b. What is the unit of average velocity in S. I system?
c. A lion spots his prey at a distance of 100m. What is the minimum time it will take to get
its prey if the average velocity attained by it is 90Km/h?
d. After eating the pray the lion came back to its initial position. Find out the average
velocity from the position of the pray to the initial position if it reaches back in 5s.

Rest and Motion are relative terms, Explain with an example. (1)

Rahul goes from station A to station B covering a distance of 10 km. Then he returns back (1)
from station B to station A covering a distance of 10km. Calculate: i) Distance covered
ii) Displacement

Is it possible that the train in which you are sitting appears to move while it is at rest. (1)
Justify your answer

A cyclist travels a distance of 4km from P to Q and then moves a distance of 3 km at right (2)
angle to PQ. Find his resultant displacement from the given data. Is it a scalar or a vector
quantity?
a) A car travels at various speed during a short journey. The table shows the distance (3)
traveled and the time taken during each of four stages A, B, C & D.

Stage A B C D
Distance (km) 1.6 3.6 2.7 2.4
Time(min) 2 2 4 3
During which two stages is the car travelling at the same average speed?
b) A train is running at a constant speed of 54km/h. What is its speed in m/s?

a) Speed and Velocity are different. How would you compare them? (5)
b) A car travels a certain distance with a speed of 50 km/h and returns with a speed of 40
km/h. Calculate the average speed for the whole journey.
