What diseases are caused by a deficiency of carbohydrates?

1. Ketosis
If insufficient of carbohydrates in daily diet, glucose synthesis depends on the
breakdown of amino acids derived from body protein and dietary protein and the
compound glycerol, which is derived from fat. Inadequacy of carbohydrates for long-
term results in increased production of organic compounds called ketones (a condition
known as ketosis), which transmit a unique sweet odour to the breath. Daily
consumption of 50 to 100 grams of carbohydrate can prevent ketosis and other
obstinate effects of a very-low-carbohydrate; however, obtaining at least half of the
daily energy intake from carbohydrates is recommended and is typical of human diets,
corresponding to at least 250 grams of carbohydrate (1,000 calories in a 2,000-calorie
diet). A varied diet containing fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole-grain cereals,
which are all abundant in carbohydrates, also provides a desirable intake of dietary
fibre.

2. Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar or low blood glucose, occurs when the
glucose levels in the blood drop below normal. While hypoglycemia is often related
with diabetes, the main cause is because of lack of carbohydrates in healthy people.
Symptoms of hypoglycemia include tiredness, weakness, light-headedness, confusion
and hunger. The main source of glucose is carbs because they are broken down into
simple sugars during digestion and enter the cells with the help of insulin, providing
energy. Eating a small quantity of carbs will quickly remedy hypoglycemia.
