Title: Data and Information System Associate (ROSTER) Deadline for application: 13 May 2020

Objectives of the Programme:

To strengthen surveillance and response to all vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) including increasing and maintaining
immunization coverage for all Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) vaccines, surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases;
to eradicate transmission of wild poliomyelitis; measles elimination, to introduce new and underutilized vaccines, to transfer
technology for the laboratory diagnosis of VPD and strengthen capacity of national regulatory authorities.

Job Description:
Under the overall guidance of the WR Bangladesh and Team Leader – IVD and the direct supervision of WHO IVD NPO –EPI
Surveillance and in close collaboration with the concerned Immunization and Vaccine Development (IVD) staff in WCO and SEARO
the incumbent will provide technical support in data management in polio eradication, measles elimination and rubella control and
will perform the following duties:

1. Act as a technical lead for implementation of information system: DHIS2, VAEIMS, vaccination center application etc. related to
routine immunization, VPD and AEFI surveillance.
2. Provide support and advice related to improvement and updates on DHIS2, VAEIMS, vaccination center application.
3. Train users at different level on effective data management, interpretation of data and using DHIS2
4. Provide support for conducting geospatial analysis on collected datasets; create maps and infographics on a regular and ad-
hoc basis to strengthen immunization; support for loading/transferring GIS data between different systems; maintain the
structures necessary for GIS data storage; adapt tools to join different GIS datasets and create new information or investigate
patterns, e.g. estimating the number of people use the vaccination center Apps, etc.
5. Provide support for the implementation and upgradation of electronic immunization registration/system
6. Ensure data entry in computerized databases (customized software) of the above-mentioned surveillance, immunization, SIAs
and other adhoc data required for the program and maintain electronic database with data integrity in timely manner and
backup
7. Regular review databases for errors and take necessary actions for corrections as and when needed (Changes and errors
might include key-entry or format errors and duplicate entries) to maintain high quality data
8. Frequent analysis of data and update key performance indicators, produce graphs, charts, maps and other forms of data
visualization based on the surveillance and immunization data routinely to monitor the disease trends and vaccination
coverage
9. Provide training for implementation of new tools and technologies to EPI and WHO IVD team as well as continuous support for
improving their capacity.
10. Keeping database updated in web-based platform (DHIS2), monitor the quality of immunization and VPD surveillance data,
communicate the errors & omission to concerned unit for taking proper corrective measures. Share the updated status to
technical unit as and when required.
11. Coordinate with WHO personnel in the country office and in the field locations for collection of data and verification of
information provided.
12. Coordinate and liaise with different government offices, UN organizations for timely generation of data and information and
preparation of reports
13. Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Education:
Essential
• At least 4 years of bachelor’s degree in public health or statistics or computer science or social science.
Desirable:

• Post graduate degree (master level) in public health or computer science or statistics or social
science;
• Additional training in database development and management is an advantage

Experience:
Essential
• At least two years of professional experience in public health or operational research or
development and management of information systems or relevant activity.
Desirable
• Experience in development and/or working with health information systems;
• Experience in programme or programme support in UN/ international organizations, and/or NGO
sector;

Essential:

database programming e.g. Oracle, MySQL, and networking.

• Expertise in database programming languages.

• Selected candidate should be ready work in the duty station assigned for minimum period of two years. However if vacancy
arises in other duty station based on programme need candidate could be transferred.
