TOPIC: Which country could be the worst place to be a ________.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Search for a job that is difficult to be done in a specific country, city or town.
2. Find information about a specific person who performs that job in a difficult
situation.
3. Include the following information:
 Brief description of his/her life (childhood, teenage hood and adulthood)
 Important events in his/her life
 What are the difficulties he/she faces in his/her job/ in his/her family?
 What are the rewards?
4. After you find the information, organize it and present it in oral form. Film
yourself for 4 minutes describing what you have found in your research.
5. Upload your video on the AVAC platform and include the online sources you
used to make this project.
Meet Marie Thomas, the first physician and inspiration for the Indonesian world.

Marie Thomas was born in 1896 she was the first Indonesian woman to become a

physician. She received her diploma from the School of Training of Native Doctors
(STOVIA) in 1922. Becoming the first Indonesian specialist in gynecology and obstetrics.

Women at that time had all kinds of difficulties to access a higher education such as paying
the tuition fee, covering their own living expenses. Unlike men, their studies were fully
funded by the government.

Since its official operation as a school in 1902, STOVIA has not accepted female students.
Only male students can receive medical education there. But over time the rules have
slowly changed. Aletta and Charlotte Jacobs were the ones who helped establish a
foundation to raise funds for female students attending STOVIA.

With the STOVIA scholarship. Marie Thomas was the only female student among around
200 male students. It was not until two years later that the school accepted a second
female student.

During her time as a doctor, Marie dedicated half of her life to medicine. She received a
great deal of awards in her career as a specialist and also was one of the first doctors
involved in the birth control process through the IUD method.
