Goal of qualitative research
 Aims to get better understanding through first had experience, truthful reporting, and
quotations of actual conversations.
 Aims to understand how the participants derive meaning from their surroundings
 Aim to understand their meaning influences their behavior
 Promote a deep, holistic understanding of a particular phenomenon
Advantages of qualitative research
 Provide depth and detail
 Creates openness
 Simulate people’s individual experience
 Attempts to avoid pre-judgements
 Meaningful
 Possible discover new ideas
 Results are more valid
 Give different directions to the researchers

Disadvantages of qualitative research


 Usually fewer people studied
 Less essay to generalize
 Difficult to make systematic comparison
 Dependent on skill of the researcher
 Cannot be generalized to others
 Data may not be reliable if observer become less objective
 Data may also be unfocussed if not properly planned
 The study may produce no information
 Take longer time to interpret answer
 May add on follow-up questions during the data collection time
