**MEDIA ALERT**
The Salvation Army and Walmart Team Up to “Stuff the Bus”
Annual school supply drive more crucial than ever due to restrictions and uncertainty
surrounding COVID-19
Who For the second year in a row, The Salvation Army is holding school supply drives
at thousands of Walmart locations across the country. In the Sacramento area
media market, there are 29 Walmart stores participating. Due to COVID-19, the
need is greater than ever before. It also means our campaign looks a little different
this year.
What Walmart shoppers online and in-store will have a chance to help families in need
right in their community by purchasing school supplies. At participating Walmart
locations, The Salvation Army will place collection bins inside the store near the
entrance. To maintain social distancing and to keep everyone as safe as possible,
we will not have volunteers present.
Why Walmart and The Salvation Army have collaborated for more than 30 years with a
common mission: to meet needs in their local communities. Supporters like
Walmart help The Salvation Army serve more than 23 million Americans each
year through a range of social services to help them overcome poverty and
economic hardships.
This year, more families are in need of our help. Students, teachers and parents
are heading into an unprecedented school year due to COVID-19. Many have
been out of work all summer, and now schools may begin the school year with
distanced learning, adding additional hardships to an already challenging
situation. Our goal with this school supply drive to is to relieve those families of a
fraction of the burden they face and to give them hope for a successful school
year.
All donations made at “Stuff the Bus” locations will remain in the local
community.
When National campaign runs August 7-9, 2020, days may vary by location.
