“No one is perfect, and criticism is always welcome and expected”.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is God’s gift, that’s why we call it the
present.” – Joan Rivers

“God is not present in idols. Your feelings are your god. The soul is your temple.” – Chanakya

“When your will is God’s will, you will have your will.”

“Never trust anyone completely but God. Love people, but put your full trust only in God.”

“Newton's third law is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The
statement means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two
interacting objects”.

“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without”.

The best cure for the body is a quiet mind.

Impossible is a word to be found only in the dictionary of fools.

Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in this
purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social
progress.

To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep
our mind strong and clear.

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is
yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts,
we make the world.

Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does
not obtain peace of mind.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

Respect the burden

Throw off your worries when you throw off your clothes at night

Never leave till tomorrow which you can do today.

IMPORTANCE OF ATTITUDE - Building a positive attitude

SUCCESS - Winning strategies
MOTIVATION - Motivating yourself and others every day
SELF-ESTEEM - Building positive self-esteem and image
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS - Building a pleasing personality
SUBCONSCIOUS MIND AND HABITS - Forming positive habits and character
GOAL-SETTING - Setting and achieving your goals
VALUES AND VISION - Doing the right thing for the right reason

FACTORS THAT DETERMINE OUR ATTITUDE(YOUR ATTITUDE CONTRIBUTES TO

SUCCESS)
There are primarily three factors that determine our attitude. They are:
1. Environment
2. Experience
3. Education
These are called the triple Es of attitude. Let's evaluate each of the factors individually.
Environment
Environment consists of the following:
Home: positive or negative influences
School: peer pressure
Work: supportive or over critical supervisor
Media: television, newspapers, magazines, radio, movies
Cultural background
Religious background
Traditions and beliefs
Social environment
Political environment

THE BENEFITS OF A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

These are many and easy to see. But what is easy to see is also easy to miss. To mention a
few, a positive attitude
Increases productivity
Fosters teamwork
Solves problems
Improves quality
Makes for congenial atmosphere
Breeds loyalty
Increases profits
Fosters better relationships with employers, employees, and customers
Reduces stress
Helps a person become a contributing member of society and an asset to their country

Kailash Chandra Pradhan Page 3

Makes for a pleasing personality.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE
Our life is an obstacle course and we become our own biggest obstacle by having a negative
attitude. People with a negative attitude have a hard time keeping friendships, jobs, marriage
and relationships. Their attitude leads to
Bitterness
Resentment
A purposeless life
Ill health
High stress level for themselves and others
They create a negative environment at home and work and become a liability to society. They
also pass on their negative behavior to others around them and to future generations.

Cultivate the discipline and dedication to practice those principles

You have to get away from the past. Dust yourself off, get back into the mainstream.
Put your dreams together and move forward. Thinking of the positive things that are true,
honest and good, will put us in a positive state of mind.
If we want to build and maintain a positive attitude, we need to consciously practice the
following steps:
Change Focus, Look for the Positive
What is your focus, How and when, where to, Why
Negative People will Always Criticize
Some people criticize no matter what. It does not matter which side you are on, they are
always on the other side.

Step 3: Develop an Attitude of Gratitude:- Many of our blessings are hidden treasures--
count your blessings and not your troubles.
Step 4: Get into a Continuous Education Program
Education without Values
True education is training of both the head and the heart.
A person can and will be successful with or without formal education if they have
the 5 Cs:
Character
Commitment
Conviction
Courtesy
Courage
We are All Gifted with Some Strengths
Stay Away from Negative Influences-Negative People
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES
Life is not just party and pleasure; it is also pain and despair.

QUALITIES THAT MAKE A PERSON SUCCESSFUL
1. Desire
2. Commitment
3. Responsibility
4. Hard Work
5. Character is a Combination
Character is a combination of integrity, unselfishness, understanding, conviction, courage,
loyalty and respect.
6. Positive Believing
7. Give More Than You Get
8. The Power of Persistence
9. Preparation –
Preparation is the necessary edge to succeed in any field.
Purpose + Principle + Planning + Practice + Perseverance + Patience + Pride =
Preparation
The best way to handle a mistake is to:-
1. Admit it quickly
2. Not dwell on it
3. Learn from it
4. Not repeat it
5. Not assign blame or make excuses
10. Not Learning from Past Mistakes
11. Fear
Fear can be real or imaginary. It makes people do strange things and primarily comes
because of a lack of understanding. To live in fear is like being in an emotional prison.
12. Lack of Discipline
Lack of consistency is poor discipline. Discipline takes self-control, sacrifice, and avoiding
distractions and temptations.
13. Poor self-esteem
14. Lack of Purpose
15. Lack of Courage
Motivating yourself & others every day
Negative motivation brings the desire to take the easier way which ends up being the tougher
way.
DIFFERENT THINGS MOTIVATE DIFFERENT PEOPLE
Internal motivation comes from within, such as pride, a sense of achievement, responsibility
and belief.

We need to learn from nature.

Forgive yourself and others. Don't hold guilt or bear grudges.

Develop a Mindset That Brings Happiness
Our Greatest Weakness Can Become Our Greatest Strength
Anger is a weakness. How can it be turned into a strength? That is turning a negative
emotion, like anger, into a strength by doing positive.

“Why Winners Stand Alone?”

Winners do not do different things. They do things differently.

Goodness always needs to be cultivated. Evils come automatically.
We can inspire people, but motivation should come from within one itself.
Trust is the greatest thing in the world, higher than love.
Reputation is what others think of us. Character is what we know we are.
In life, results are rewarded. Efforts are not rewarded.
IQ is an ability to be a quick learner. But it is not a measure of judgement.
Integrity is the strength of character and honesty is trustfulness.
Those who are constantly telling truth, when the first time they tell lie, they will be
caught.
When a person tells lie always even if he tells truth, nobody believe.
We get back in life what we give to others; it comes back with greater accuracy.
Silence and integrity are different.
In an organisation, everybody is checking every other person all the time.
Relations cannot be bought. It can only be created.
We judge ourselves by an intentions but the world judges us by an actions.
Half-truth is complete lies.
Playing to win is out of inspiration. Playing not to lose is out of desperation.
Most destruction is not by competitions outside but by sabotage from inside.
Positive thinking alone does not guarantee success. Positive thinking plus positive
actions
Increase our probability of success.
A positive thinker is solution focussed, not that he says ‘yes’ to everything.
Skill and Will are needed to succeed in life.
Ability to live in incompatible world is compatibility.
Moral commitments are much stronger than legal commitment.
Commitment comes out of loyalty.
Do not be loyal to individuals to organization but loyal to values.
Values changing from person to person and situation to situation.
Values:-
Universal values apply across the world across country, culture and religion.

Eternal values remain before we came and after we go.

There are no rights and wrongs. Your thinking makes it so.

Loyalty means dependability. Ability without dependably is a liability.
Skill is ability. Competence is the ability to do with skill and will.
A Goal is a dream with deadline, clear direction and plan of actions.

Concept of smart Goals-:

Goals must be in six directions-:

 Family
 Financial
 Mental Wheel of Life
 Social
 Spiritual
 Physical

Kailash Chandra Pradhan Page 6

Goal must be - Slightly out of reach, (motivating) but not cut of sight (which is demotivating)

We can communicate at three levels-:

 Physical
 Intellectual
 Emotional

There are certain cardinal rules in communication. You never get second chance to create
first impression.
Study by Dr. Albert Mehrabian on effectiveness of communication-:
55% - Non verbal
38% - Tone of voice.
7% - Verbal
Positive things telling in a negative way has negative meaning.
It is better not to have a person than to have a wrong person.
How do you avoid miscommunication?
Be specific and reconfirm.
As far as criticism is painful to the giver, they have a right to criticise. If criticism is giving
pleasure to the giver, it is bad criticism.
Sometimes, in life you got to be unkind to be kind.
Wise people do not answer a question, they give out another question.

Attitude of Positive Personality-:

 Understanding
 Caring
 Empathy
 Expectations
 Confidence
 Patience
 Humility
 Convictions
 Belief
Confidence without humility amounts to arrogance.

Behaviour of Positive Personality-:

 Enthusiastic
 Decisive
 Courageous
 Sincere
 Pleasant
 Considerate
 Friendly
 Courteous
 Optimistic
 Warm
 Relaxed/cordial
 Responsible

Kailash Chandra Pradhan Page 7

Many time in our life, we penalized not for our action but for our inaction.
Courtesy is very important and integrity is a way of life not a strategy.

Results of Positive Personality-:

 Respect
 Recognition
 Security
 Energy
 Happiness
 Growth
 Health
 Friendship
 Love
 Inner Peace
 Success
 Fulfillment

Negative Personality-:

 Fear
 Greed
 Anger
 Egoistic
 Touchy
 Self-pity
 Suspicious
 Criticism
 Doubt
 Envy
 Hate

Loneliness - Mental condition.

Solitude - Be alone within a large group.
A conference is successful-:
I am walking with value addition.
People say, one action point is there.
Practice makes permanent, practice doesn’t make perfect.
Good habits are painful to start, but a pleasure to live with.
Bad habits are painless to start but painful to live with.
Problem is a sign of life, the day we don’t have any problem, we are dead. We cannot solve all
the problems in our life, we can only handle them.
Perform action- abandoning attachment and balanced in success and failure! Evenness of
mind is called Yoga.

Thy right is to work only, but never with its fruits; let not the fruits of actions be the motive, nor
let thy attachment be to inaction.

Kailash Chandra Pradhan Page 8

When aman completely casts off, O Arjuna, all the desires of the mind and is satisfied in the
Self by the Self, then is he said to be one of steady wisdom!

He who is everywhere without attachment, on meeting with anything good or bad, who neither
rejoices nor hates, his wisdom is fixed.

From anger comes delusion; from delusion the loss of memory; from loss of memory the
destruction of discrimination; from the destruction of discrimination he perished.

But the self-controlled man, moving amongst objects with the senses under restraint, and free
from attraction and repulsion, attains to peace.

The man attains peace, who, abandoning all desires, moves about without longing, without the
sense of mine and without egoism.

For him there is no interest whatsoever in what is done or what is not done; nor does he
depend on any being for any object.

Therefore, without attachment, do thou always perform action which should be done; for, by
performing action without attachment man reaches the Supreme.

Whatsoever a great man does, that other men also do; whatever he sets up as the standard
that the world follows

In whatever way men approach Me, even so do I reward them; My path do men tread in all
ways, O Arjuna!

He whose undertakings are all devoid of desires and (selfish) purposes, and whose actions
have been burnt by the fire of knowledge,—him the wise call a sage.

Without hope and with the mind and the self-controlled, having abandoned all greed, doing
mere bodily action, he incurs no sin.
