Subject: HUMSS 5 – Philippine Politics and Governance
Topic: Nature, Forms, and Consequences of Power

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:


1. define power;
2. identify the nature, types, and consequences of power;
3. explain the nature, dimensions, types, and consequences of power; and
4. explain how power is exercised in different situations.

Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of politics and political science, governance,
political ideologies, power, states, nations, and globalization.

Performance Standard:
The learners shall be able to clearly identify a specific political phenomenon and how it can
be studied.

Learning Competencies:
1. define power;
2. recognize the nature, dimensions, types, and consequences of power;
3. analyze the nature, dimensions, types, deployments, and consequences of power; and
4. assess how power is exercised in different situations.

Let us start our class by praying.

Before we start our next topic let’s have a review about
what is meant by political science. Daniel what is

Now, one of the central concepts and issues of political
science is POWER.

We need to study because to know who wields
it? How is it shared, checked, or monopolized?
How can power and its consequences be
controlled to gain benefits?

II. Presentation of the Lesson:

What is the importance of power in the government?


Power is very important to government in order
to implement our rules, laws and regulations
and that give us much more comfortable life.

A. Motivation:
Let’s have a group activity called Picture-Me-Out
 The class will be divided into 5 groups.
 Each of the group will think of their
favorite superhero character and project the
special power of the chosen character in
five minutes.
 One representative will discuss their
special power in not more than three
sentences.
B. Development of the Lesson:

determining the situations where there is a clear use of
power as defined in political science. Check those

those that do not present a clear use of power and like
for those who used power.

Using ½ crosswise paper: In Box 1, the students will identify a person who has power
over them; and in Box 2, a person whom they have power over. They will describe
what would happen if one does not respect power or misuses it.
