ABSTRACT.We prove the Lindelif hypothesis in weight aspect for the average
of the special values of the twisted L-functionsof newforms, which generalizes
the work of W. Kohnen and J. Sengupta (2002).
1. INTRODUCTION
In this note, we prove the Lindel6f hypothesis in weight aspect for the average of
the special values of the twisted L-functions of newforms. More precisely, we prove
the following:
Theorem. Let D be a negative fundamental discriminant, (D, M) = 1, and let
e > 0. Then
2515
which expresses the holomorphic kernel function of the periods of cusp forms as the
image of the (D, r)-th Poincard series of Jacobi forms under the Shimura map, and
then estimating the norm of the (D, r)-th Poincard series.
2. PROOF
Let {fl, f2,'', fe} be the orthogonal basis of normalized Hecke eigenforms of
S2e(M, '2). By substituting Do = D, D - r2 (mod 4) in Theorem 3.4 of [3], we
get
- 1/2)R(X,D)
(-i)k-12k-2(M |IDI)k-1/2F(k
P(D,r)I SD,r(W) 2k-27k+1/2
(2)k-

( p(t)X(t) tk-lf

(y)D k+,M,•,t,2,MD_2M1,D
where
R(X, D) = (DM1)-1/2 X(a) (2) e27ia/(MiID),
a mod (MIIDI)
we get
(5) ,
LL(fix (4r)2k ki:l
i=1 -,X (fifi
Using equations (5) and (6) of [3], the right-hand side of (5) equals
22k-2 rk-2 (Ml1DI)k-1/2kl+6
(6)
F(k) (2kk-•2)R(T,
D) (-ik+l)

(p, /(t)T(t) (D) f IK(tw))
tlM2 ,M/t,,,M1D2,-r2M1,D
where P1 is the first Poincard series in the space of integral weight cusp forms.
Since the Shimura map SD,r preserves the space of oldforms and newforms, from
equation (2) and the above inequality, we get
D k
SL(f(
f 22k7r-22(MI
DI)k-1/2kl+e
(7) k) <? P(D,r)k (P(D,r))
D IF(k)(2k-1)R(X, D)(-ik+1)
S(f
<<,e,D,M kl*c,
which follows by estimating the norm of the Poincard series P(D,r) as done in [2].
This proves the theorem.
