Dear Sirs:

My name is Pedro Antonio Chala Bejarano, and I am a teacher of English in the Bachelor of Arts in Modern
Languages at Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. I am writing this reference at the request of Maira
Alejandra Álvarez Araújo, who is currently applying for the International Parliamentary Scholarships programme.

I met Alejandra in the second semester of 2015, when she was my student in the Low Advanced English course
(the last of the seven levels of English in the B.A.), Alejandra was always a committed student, her work being
characterized by thoroughness and quality. She was also a critical, enthusiastic and reflective person who liked
to contribute to discussions and raise questions to promote dialogue. Since then, I have known Alejandra for her
sense of compromise and determination.

Alejandra is a generous person who likes to help others to reach their potential. Her charisma and commitment
led her in 2015 to become a tutor in the students’ group called ANCLA, which offers tutoring services to peers in
the B. A. who need to improve their academic performance. This experience gave her the opportunity of honing
her teaching talents and knowledge at the same time that she contributed to the academic improvement of her
peers. Her determination also led her to get theWeltwärts Süd- Nord scholarship offered by AFS Colombia in
collaboration with the German government. She did her volunteer service between 2018 and 12019 with
physically and mentally disabled people in Northeim, Niedersachsen.

Another important aspect to consider when describing Alejandra has to do with her personality. She is an
outgoing and sociable girl, with excellent interpersonal skills. She enjoys sharing her ideas with others in an
honest and respectful way, and she can adapt to new situations and people easily. She can communicate
efficiently with others and builds relations quickly due to her gentle and caring nature.

Alejandra is a respectful and reliable person. She is also eager and open to learn about other cultures and share
knowledge about hers. This, along with her effective communication abilities and teaching abilities make her a
formidable asset to any institution. I strongly recommend Alejandra to you, and assure you of her capabilities. As
a dedicated and knowledgeable student, an honest and capable professional with experience abroad and an all-
around great person, I know that she will be a beneficial addition to your Programme.
