I’ve always loved art. My mum studied it at university and these days I often read art books at home. We don’t
have Art classes at school, and there are seldom any programmes about art on TV, so it’s the only way I can
learn about it. Anyway, last Saturday afternoon, I was reading the newspaper when I saw an ad for a new art
gallery in the city. Usually, I just watch TV with friends on Saturday evenings, but I decided to visit the gallery
instead. So, I checked the location on my smartphone and headed into the city centre. When I arrived at the
gallery, I got a nice surprise. For the opening week, admission was just £2! The normal prices are £10 for
adults and £7 for students, so I saved £5! I got a bit of a shock when I went inside, though. There were four
large exhibition rooms in the gallery and each of them was packed with people. I couldn’t even see the
paintings properly! After a while, I went outside and sat on a bench. Then, a woman who I didn’t recognise sat
down beside me. “I hate large crowds, too,” she said. She told me that she was a well-known artist whose
paintings were on display in the gallery! We had a long chat about art. It was an evening to remember!

As a young boy in England, the only thing that Kieron Williamson cared about was playing football. Then, in
May 2008, when he was six years old, his family visited Cornwall, a coastal area in the southwest of the
country. There, Kieron was so impressed by some boats in a harbour that he asked for paper and a pencil to
draw them. It was his first drawing and when his family returned home, Kieron began drawing and painting all
the time. Soon, his parents, who weren’t artists themselves, asked a local artist for her opinion. She was
amazed by Kieron’s natural talent and brought him to some adult painting classes. A year later, in August
2009, Kieron had his first exhibition. People were shocked when they found out the paintings had been created
by a seven-year-old child! Before long, newspapers and TV shows found out about Kieron and he became a
celebrity. People called him ‘mini-Monet’ and he started earning a lot of money. In fact, by the age of 14, he
had earned over £2 million from the paintings he had sold! Today, Kieron continues painting and gets the same
enjoyment from it as he did when he was six years old.
