1. OBJECTIVES Objectives must be met over the week and connected to the curriculum standards. To meet the objectives, necessary procedures must be followed and if needed, additional lessons exercises and remedial
activities may be done for developing content knowledge and competencies. These are assessed using Formative Assessment strategies. Valuing objectives support the learning of content and competencies and
enable children to find significance and joy in learning the lessons. Weekly objectives shall be derived from the curriculum guides.

A. Content Standards Values the functions/purposes of oral communication.

B. Performance Standards Writes a 250-word essay of his/her objective observation and evaluation of the various speakers watched and listened to.

C. Learning Competencies Discusses the functions of communication. (EN11/12OC-Ibe-8)

D. Objectives Discuss what we want to achieve when we communicate;


Synthesize that communication serves many functions;
Perform activities showing communication functions.

Chris decides to go to Valerie’s house one fine afternoon to consult with her about their class report. When he knocked, Valerie came
running to open the door. When he saw that it was Chris, she immediately let him into the house. She said “I was just about to call you. I’m
having trouble with our report. What are we going to do?

Last week, we learned about the nature and elements of communication. We also discussed various models of communication and why
there is a breakdown of communication.

B. Establishing a purpose for 3. Today, we will learn about the functions of communication and will appreciate its importance in our daily activities. (10min)
the lesson 4. First, let’s have an activity. This activity is called “Paper Shapes”. I will give a paper to each of you. (1 representative each division)
We will play a quick game to prove a couple of facts about communication and that you will be giving them a series of instructions about
what to do with their paper and that you will be doing the same instructions with yours simultaneously. Now, close your eyes. You are not
allowed to ask questions, just follow the instruction.

• Hold your paper


• Fold your sheet of paper in half.
• Tear off the upper left hand corner.
• Fold it in half once more and tear off the upper right hand corner of the sheet.
• Fold it in half again and tear off the lower left hand corner of the sheet of paper.
• Open your eyes and inspect what they came up with

6. Observe how everyone’s shape is different, point out to the variety of the shapes, even though you gave the same instructions to everyone-
*Point out the importance of two way communication in the school/ workplace which is highlighted by this simple exercise since it was a one
way communication and they didn’t ask any questions.

7. Learners then, will be introduced to the specific objectives of today’s lesson

15. Choose one TV advertisement or product demonstration in the internet or on TV. Identify the speaker’s purpose of presenting the product.
J. Additional Activities Then, observe if the speaker is successful in conveying the message. Share your individual output in group.
