CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Continuous improvement is accomplished through regular assessment, data review, and
implementation of changes. Assessment is provided through a number of assessment
vehicles, as described in Section A.
A. Student Outcomes
The evaluation of and degree to which the learning outcomes for the Electrical
Engineering program are met is accomplished by various assessment tools, direct/indirect
and quantitative/qualitative.
Direct assessment methods are those where a conclusion can be reached directly from
student submitted work, such as measurement of Student Outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 7 through
homework, exams, tests and/or projects where methods used and conclusions reached are
easily interpreted and evaluated.
Indirect assessment methods are those where a conclusion is drawn inferentially from
evidence observed, such as alumni survey form, employer survey, exit/graduation
student’s survey etc.
Evaluation Process
The university has a detailed and well-defined process to solicit feedback from various
stakeholders of our programs. The aim is to gauge the effectiveness, in terms of quality,
of all pertinent activities, to develop cognizance about pitfalls and to bring about tangible
and verifiable improvements in them. In order to derive optimum performance from the
human resource and systems, Jouf University evaluates its teachers / courses / graduates /
alumni to get enhanced organizational success. Evidences from various stakeholders, are
collected to gauge the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process. Analysis of
evaluations is used to improve various aspects of our system. Following are the
evaluation methods currently used in Jouf University.
Teachers Evaluation:
It requires students to answer a feedback questionnaire, indicating their level of
satisfaction. It is a very useful survey because it helps the teacher and the department to
know about the views of students in relation to teaching and assessment processes. The
results of this evaluation are shared with the teachers. Those performing very well are
commended and those not performing well are counseled for improvement. This survey is
conducted twice a year i.e. at the end of Fall and Spring semesters.
Alumni Survey:
This survey is conducted once a year. The purpose is to collect information about from
graduated students about employment, job issues and, above all, to find whether whatever
they had learnt during their undergraduate studies is helpful to them in their profession.
The survey also seeks their suggestions to improve the system of education at Jouf
University.
Employer Survey:
This survey seeks the level of satisfaction of the employers in relation to Jouf graduate
employees. It consists of questions concerning their demonstrated capabilities related to
knowledge, skills, attitudes, communication skills and their managerial qualities. This
survey is conducted once a year.
B. Continuous Improvement
Evaluation of SLO:
Every teacher clearly lays out the SLOs of the subject course and briefs the students about
their meaning, context and the assessment methods. The teacher also emphasizes that
minimum score for passing a SLO is 60%. It is the total percentage (KPI) in the quizzes,
sessional and the final examination concerning questions which have been set for
checking the fulfillment of a particular SLO. It is important to note that every student has
to meet the 60% criterion for all the SLOs of the subject course, and also for all the
courses being offered in a particular semester. The Department carries out computational
analysis for fulfillment of each SLOs to gauge accomplishment of corresponding PLO.
This activity is accomplished at the end of each semester.
Evaluation of PLO:
There are 07 PLOs and each student must exhibit the fulfillment of all the PLOs. All
PLOs
are spread over five (5) years of education (i.e. tenth semester) through various SLOs in
each subject. Therefore, their fulfillment is based on the fulfillment of their related SLOs.
The assessment of PLO achievement is accomplished at the end of the engineering
program. A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of 60% is used for PLO attainment in each
course. In case a student is not able to achieve a PLO in a particular course, but is able to
clear the respective course, name of such student(s) is highlighted by the respective
faculty member. These students are given additional assignments/viva/quiz to improve
knowledge regarding concerned PLO so that they could have a better chance to attain the
failed PLO in the subsequent semesters. Besides direct assessment of PLOs through
SLOs, exit and internship survey is also conducted to get indirect assessment of PLOs.
Evaluation of PEO:
PEOs are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to achieve a few
years after graduation. Fulfillment of PEOs is thus assessed through relevant data of
students who have graduated. The aim is to find whether our alumni who would be
involved in various professional activities, are capable enough to demonstrate the
attributes mentioned in the PEOs. For this purpose, the QAC directorate has developed
employer and alumni survey forms to gauge the attainment of PEOs. The QAC
directorate analyzes these feedback responses to determine whether a particular PEO has
been successfully met or not. The responses to questions are computed on a scale of 5.00
for questions of both feedback survey forms.
