Reflection Paper

Observation:

During the classes given by the teachers from the school Santa Teresa de Jesus,
to students in 3, 5 and 6 grade, I could observe that from the beginning of the class the
experience is really meaningful. I could observe what happened in a classroom with the
teacher perspective instead of the previous one, the student perspective. This was an
important opportunity to know all the thigs that involve to be a teacher in a real contest,
the logically development of a class in order to topics and activities, the materials used
during the lesson, the interest and participation of the student during the class and how
the teacher manage the indiscipline.

The teachers give the instructions and explain the topics in the first and foreign
language, they sometimes mimic and draw on the board some misunderstood words in
order to clarify them, also asked to the students to repeat their instructions to be sure
that they understand and if they do not understand they change the way to explain and
explain again with other words and also give some instructions in the mother language.
It is important to know that sometimes the words, the expressions, the way to say
something or even the speed that we use to speak or explain something and we think
that are easy to understand for us or for our partners when we are doing or performing a
micro-teaching are not always the correct way to explain anything or give instructions to
students that do not have a higher level in a second language.

The students are most of the time attentive to the class, they like when the
teacher are speaking in English, especially the younger students, they usually want to
participate in the lesson and answer the teacher’s questions. When some of them are
not paying attention to the class, the teacher stops talking and call their attention, if their
doing an activity and some of them are not working the teacher approach to them and
ask them why they are not working. However, there are some students that do not like
to follow the instructions of the teacher and keep doing another thing different from pay
attention to the class, like talking, I saw that in some of this cases the teacher after ask
for attention a couple of times gave up an leave them do whatever they want with the
condition of do not interrupt the class and disturb their classmates.
