Oral Communication in Context Grade 11

Session Topic : Types of Communicative Strategy

Objectives:

At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:

 identify the different communicative strategies;


 differentiate each communicative strategy;
 act out different communicative strategies used in the community;

 apply appropriate communicative strategy in different contexts.

ACTIVITY I - (15 minutes)


“NAME THAT WORD” (10 mins)
 Ask the students to formulate a word relative to the short
video clips
 The students must complete the word by choosing the letters
available in a box.

e.g.

ACTIVITY II - (1 hour)
“PAINT ME A PICTURE” (30 mins )
 Group the students into 5 and brief them that you’re going to play
“Paint Me a Picture” that will show the communicative strategies
common in different contexts.
o In the classroom
o In a firm
o In the construction site
o In the court room
o In the bakeshop
o In the health center

 Let the students present and evaluate their performance based on


the rubrics.

ANALYSIS (15 mins)

The teacher will begin the discussion by asking the following questions:

1. What is communication?

2. Give specific examples of a situation that shows communication.

(Note: The teacher will record the responses of the participants.)


(Note: Teacher shall park the areas for further discussion based on the
different Tracks.)

ABSTRACTION (40 minutes)

Say: To further enhance our understanding on the communicative strategy, let


us now focus on the discussion using a powerpoint presentation.

The power point presentation will highlight the following

1. Definition of Communicative Strategy


2. Types of Communicative Strategy
a. Nomination
b. Restriction
c. Turn-taking
d. Topic control
e. Topic shifting
f. Repair
g. Termination

APPLICATION (30 minutes)

Group the students into 5 and ask them to make the task;

TASK:
Create a three-minute group presentation with script that uses various
communicative strategies in different contexts.
Be creative.
