#1 What is all this Jedi thing about?

BEFORE ANYONE GETS OVER EXCITED!!! WHAT THE JEDI ARE NOT ABOUT.

First of all this is not a role playing site, we are not role players, we are the real deal. Jediism is a life long
commitment to understanding, tolerance, harmony, and learning among many other things. If you are joining purely
to wear a badge reading ‘I AM A JEDI’ then we are not for you. Neither will you learn mystical powers or learn to
build lightsabres. Whilst we do encourage and practise meditation and this in itself may open up new paths for the
individual, you wont be taught to choke people using thought. Lightsabres are used as symbols of the oath taken by
all Jedi, but not all Jedi choose to use them, similarly not all Catholics wear a Crucifix or use a Rosary. The simple
fact of the matter is there currently does not exist the technology to build a real working lightsabre, the ‘Hilts’ that
are owned or used are purely symbolic or ‘Ceremonial’ replicas. Some do have a powerful LED to illuminate a
Plastic or Polycarbonate blade but this is as far as it goes. Whilst many of the members do enjoy the Star Wars films
etc, we are not Star Wars fans or ‘Geeks’ and we are not affiliated with any of LucasArts or George Lucas Products,
the name and term ‘Jedi’ just happens to fit our philosophies.

#2. I am under 18 years of age, can I still become a member?

The simple answer is yes, but we do however ask you to introduce yourself in the Youth Section of the forum as
soon as possible, this is simply so our Youth Officer(s) are aware of you. In some cases we may ask to double check
with your parent(s) or guardian(s) that they are aware and happy with your membership of our Temple.

#3. What do we need an application for?

The application serves many purposes, most of which are not really for the benefit of the Temple. All the
information submitted to the applications is held elsewhere on secure servers, and only a very small number of the
most senior staff (the admins or Directorship) of the Temple Of The Jedi Order has access to this data.

Be rest assured that this information is protected by international law, it most certainly will not be ‘shared’ or ‘sold’
to anyone with the sole exception of the State Texas with whom we are registered or Government agencies who
require our co-operation.

For this reason, any knowingly false information submitted on this application is a legal offence, and by default
invalidates your application and any subsequent ‘promotion’ or ‘title/rank’ associated with a false application this
mainly relates to clergy).

The ‘Digital Signature’ at the foot of the form is simply your full name typed out, we are not asking the impossible
and asking for a ‘signature’ or a scan of your handwriting. As common sense as this seems, we do get asked from
time to time about this.

By submitting your application, you are legally entitled by law, to the same recognition of your religion as any other
religion, that is to say you are LEGALLY recognised as a practitioner of the Jediist Religion and have the same
rights as for example a follower of Islam or Christianity or any other mainstream religion.

Another purpose of the application is as already mentioned for state records. If you feel the calling to become a
member of the Jediist Clergy (if you like a Priest of Jediism) and are a Licensed or Ordained Minister and wish to
conduct civil ceremonies such as weddings, it is a legal requirement that your status be verifiable. This allows
everyone involved (for example) in the ceremony of wedlock to be sure of its legality. You may however need to
check with a lawyer/attorney or other legal adviser about the legality of your status in your particular state/country.

Whilst some of the questions may appear to be a little pointless, again they are for verification purposes, if for
example you are unsure of ‘place of birth’ simply put ‘unknown’. If you are not comfortable filling this form out,
that is your decision not too. But you will not be trained in Jediism without a properly filled out application, and thus
will not be able to become a member of the clergy. We at the Temple Of The Jedi Order feel that legitimate
members have nothing to fear and therefore nothing to hide.

As said above, all information is kept in strictest confidence.

#4. OK, I’ve registered, now what? How do I become a Jedi?

- If you’ve registered, sent in your Jedi Application (located on the left in the main menu once you have registered to
use the Forum) and taken the Oath (Located in the Forums under Records)…Then you are a Jedi. From here on out
it’s all about learning and Commitment.

- To take an oath is public and personal in nature. This means it is made in the form of a public announcement with
direct reference to the person taking it. To take the TOTJO Jedi Oath means to support that cause.

Any pledge no matter in what form is a valid oath, no doubt, but it is not specific to the members who are Jedi here.

For those wishing to be Jedi of this Temple it is required for you to include your real name, date of birth and the
following formula:
"I profess before all my fellow Jedi that I, ........... born on ........, without reservation, choose the Jedi path, with all
its duties and responsibilities. I shall do that which is right and profess my allegiance to the Force and its will. I vow
to uphold the Jedi teachings, and to henceforth devote myself to the life of a Jedi."

#5. How do I get a Master? I want to start training straight away.

- First you are invited and required as a Jedi Knight Initiate to participate in the course of lessons as defined in the
Initiate’s Programme and clearly presented on our front page.

- Each student should post their work in the Forum. They could for example entitle their work "John's Jedi Journal"
etc and post all the work there. They can PM or e mail any master or knight for help that is how you would get to
know them and vice-versa. Br. John you can reach at JohnHenryPhelan@gmail.com .

- You don`t get a Master. Either a Master finds you or one of the above mentioned Professors mediate on your
behalf. Once you are ready a Master will be lead by the Force to find and teach you. This call is unmistakable and
easily recognised by the Masters and teaching Knights. Your job before this happens is to be PATIENT, and to
LEARN as much as possible by taking the classes offered in the forum and READING the articles and teachings of
the Masters and the Knights in the Temple. Also the more you CONTRIBUTE to threads in the forum the easier it
will be for Masters or Knights to get to know you.

- Make yourself noticeable, so we know who you are! We have so many members that not only new members but
for that matter also apprentices, knights and Masters should declare themselves with the following signature (as far
as is possible) with the help of the admins:
Rite:..…(Pure Land, Abrahamic, Buddhist, Pagan, Fifth)
Apprentices:...…(name) + (date of begin)
Master:...…(name) + (date of begin)
Old Apprentices:...…(name)
Old Master:…..(name)
This information is important since it will be required in any consideration of ranking.

Due to the information about training and thus be taken as an apprentice (and getting a personal master) is clearly
written many times within this site - from 23rd February 2010 - 'I WANT A MASTER' posts are no longer tolerated.

Any such new threads will be deleted by admins and existing threads have now been locked.

#6. What are these Rites, what do they mean, how do I choose, do I have to choose?

What do they mean ?

Well, this is in some ways a tricky thing to describe. Essentially it is better viewed from ones own perspective and
this means how you the individual wish to take Jediism into your own life. One of the most wonderful things of
Jediism is that no matter what Religious or Spiritual beliefs one already has and even lives by, Jediism is
comfortably integrated with no conflicts. It is simply down to the individual to decide how they will do this.

There are four rites, The Pure Land Rite, The Buddhist Rite, The Pagan Rite and The Abrahamic Rite. Below you
will find a short introduction to each of the Rites. This is only a rough guide to each and there are as many different
viewpoints to each as there are members of the rite. The point is to decide which one most comfortably sits within
ones own beliefs.

Whilst we ask members who seek formal training under a Jediist Master, to put the rite they feel most in tune with in
their signature, this is by no means a must as during training one will be trained in as neutral a manner as possible.
We like to allow each person to follow their own heart and make a decision on Knighthood. Even then, the rite one
follows is not fixed forever after and there is no reason why anyone should not seek to learn all they can about the
other rites, in fact it is recommended and encouraged. For those however who do not feel drawn to any rite this is
also no problem. One of the may virtues of Jediism is the seeking of knowledge and learning. The day we stop
learning is the day we stop truly living (Living and existing are not the same).

What are these Rites?

Pure land Jediism.

Pure land Jediism can also be seen as Orthodox Jediism. The simplest answer is to say a Pure land Jediist does not
follow other religions or beliefs with Jediism. If you like more akin to the Jedi of the movies ie we follow the force
and only the force. Pure Land Jedi can often be heard saying 'I tried other faiths but could not fit...' usually one or
two principals of any particular faith. Pure Land Jediist concentrate mainly on The Force, that is to say The Force is
their primary concern and they tend to not practise other religions/faiths. The Pure Land Jediist can be likened to the
movie Jedi in some ways, in terms of philosophy and some practises such as meditation and trust/faith /utilisation of
The Force. This does not mean we move C3PO by thought power or shoot lightning from our fingers etc, or beat
each n every bad guy with a lightsabre and all that.
The Pure Land believe that The Force binds everything, flows through and around everything, therefore is part of
everything and likewise everyone and everything not only has part of the power of the force but also contributes to
it. It can simply be viewed as a form of energy that is present throughout the universe and as such this 'Energy' is the
source of all power and creation. Therefore, after death, our force energy goes back to a pool to be used and shared
once again in the perpetual cycle, it is in this that we believe in life after death.

The Abrahamic Rite

The Abrahamic rite is one that combines Jediism along with the teaching of the Abrahamic decedent religions
(Jewish, Christian, etc). It is for those of us who are familiar or still practice one of these religions. It connects them
to Jediism and the teachings are more specific to the particular religion a person practices/believes. The rite is much
like others in that we do not make people conform but share information and insight into our lives. We revolve
around service as all Jedi do. The only restrictions we have are those we place on ourselves.
There are many who attribute the Force to the will of Allah, the Holy Spirit, or the will of God the the characteristics
of all 4 are nearly the same. It doesn't matter as long as you believe in something. We also care for and respect our
fellow Jedi. No matter what rite, creed, race, color, orientation; we are all Jedi. We live as one community. It is our
greatest strength. It is this bond of love, strength of spirit, trust and respect that all including the Abrahamic rite are
committed to.

The Buddhist Rite

STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The Pagan Rite.

The Pagan Rite is the rite associated with all pagan beliefs, these include but are not limited to, Wicca, Celtic, Druid,
and Elven to name a few. The Masters of these rites dedicate their teachings and lessons to all training related to the
Pagan beliefs which would be the history and philosophies of the pagan religion, all stories poems and songs that are
used to pass down the teachings and lessons and keep these beliefs alive.

There are also other teachings and lessons to be learned from the Masters in this Rite. Witchcraft and its’ history,
rituals and spells, Druid and Celtic teachings to include their history and rituals. The Masters also train on the
holistic healing arts, nature and what it can teach us, animal lore, and herbal medicine. The Masters in the Pagan
Rite use their specific knowledge and life experiences to educate those who may chose to follow this path, and to
help and teach those who may just be wandering this planet looking for a place to call home.

#7. What does apprenticeship involve?

1. Before any apprenticeship is possible the Initiate’s Programme must be completed.

2. The start of all Apprenticeships should be presented first by the potential Master to the Cardinal Bishop of the
apprentice`s rite or to one of their choice if the apprentice has no rite.
3. The Cardinal Bishop should interview the parties involved.
4. The Apprenticeship will be noted.
5. The official minimum time for training is 6 months.
6. The Executive Committee (EC) will consider, using appropriate criteria, any exceptions to this and all other early
finishers. (Early completion of training has to be explained in depth by the Master, without knowledge of the
apprentice, to those leading members.)
7. When the Master considers the Apprentice as finished this should be brought before the Executive Committee
(EC).
8. Apprentices could be asked about their understanding of the General Foundation Course taught by their Masters:
- TOTJO Doctrine, as presented in its components
- TOTJO, the web site
- TOTJO, its structure (rites, ranks, clergy...)
- TOTJO history
- TOTJO, a real Church etc

#8. How do I become Clergy? I feel called to work in this Ministry as a Reverend.

- TOTJO can both License and Ordain Ministers to serve in that capacity. Both licenses and ordinations are Legal in
every state in the USA and may be in foreign countries (check with a Town Hall in your area). All Ministers can
officiate at weddings and conduct other religious ceremonies (check with your local government for guidelines).

- To become a Minister of the Force you must be Licensed or Ordained by TOTJO. It is not the Certificate (provided
by the Bishops of your respective Rite) that makes you a minister but our records on file which make you a minister.
To request Licensure as a Minister of the Force you send an email or PM to the Bishops of your respective Rite
entitled 'Licence Request' with enough information so that we may contact you and begin the interview process. For
Ordained ministers please contact both the Cardinal Bishop of your Rite and the Cardinal Bishop of Clergy
(Cardinal Bishop Jon). After proper instruction this will the be brought to the College of Cardinals (CoC).

- If approved upon review, you will then receive a Certificate announcing your status as Minister of the Force at
whatever level of Jedi you have attained at that time. Original copies per post cost $10.

#9.What Jedi ranking is there in the Order?

Jedi Knight Grand Master- This rank is essentially the same as Jedi Knight Master, but this is an honorary title
allocated to Masters for exceptional services and dedication to TOTJO. This rank is NOT 'above' or 'higher' than
Master.

Jedi Knight Master-This rank is achieved when a Sr. Knight completes the training of his apprentice who then
becomes a full knight and takes an apprentice of their own. (This rank may be awarded based on previous
experience.)

Jedi Sr. Knight-This rank is bestowed upon those knights who take an apprentice. The taking of an apprentice is an
added responsibility far beyond those of a regular Jedi knight and as such this rank carries the same autonomy as a
Master. This rank holds even after the Sr. Knights first apprentice graduates. (This rank may be awarded based on
previous experience)
Jedi Knight-This rank is bestowed upon those who have completed the training of a Master or Sr. Knight in full.
(This rank may be awarded based on previous experience)

Jedi Knight Apprentice-This rank is bestowed upon those who are currently in training under a Master or Sr. Knight

Jedi Knight Initiate-This rank is bestowed upon those who become members of this church by filling out the
registration form and taking the oath and successfully completing the initiates programme which is compulsory prior
to being taken as an apprentice and thus getting the apprentice rank.

#10. What are the distinctions of clergy in the Order and what do they mean?

- There are 4 kinds of established clergy within the Order.

- Commissioned - this is given to a member for a special one time event like conducting the marriage of a friend or
for a limited mission. Revocable.

- Licensed - the powers of an ordained minister but not ordained and this can be revoked. These also cannot take
confession under the seal recognized by law (Can be shared by Initiates or Apprentices). These Ministers carry the
title of Rev. but not Ordained Clerical Person (OCP) at the end of their names.

- Ordained Minister- Holy Orders and cannot be revoked. An ordained minister may take a confession under the seal
recognized by law and act as a spiritual counselor among other things (Can be shared by Knights, Sr. Knights or
Masters). These Ministers carry the title Rev. and OCP at the end of their names.

- Bishop - The fullness of holy orders and the only clergy who can ordain! Irrevocable (Can be shared by Knights,
Sr.Knights or Masters). Auxiliary-/Arch-/Cardinal-Bishops are not titles of ordination but posts of duty, and are
therefore revocable.

#11. And what about these titles Auxiliary Bishop, Arch-Bishop and Cardinal Bishop I
have seen?

- These titles are bestowed upon those Bishops who serve in a Jurisdictional capacity over some aspect of the Order.
While the holy orders are the same as those of a Bishop, Arch-Bishops carry the responsibility of jurisdiction over
the Rites as well as over positions such as Chaplain, Defender of the Faith, Clergy and Canon Law or Sergeant at
Arms. Auxiliary Bishops assist and in the case of absence represent their respective jurisdictional Arch Bishop.
Arch- Bishops share in the jurisdictional responsibilities of their Cardinals.

- The title of Cardinal Bishop is Bestowed upon the Leaders and Senior Pastors of the Order. They form part of a
governing body called College of Cardinals (CoC). These persons carry the responsibilities as moral leaders of the
community and as servants of the servants of the Force. Cardinal Bishop is the highest clerical rank in the Order.
Just as the Arch- Bishops and Auxiliary Bishops, Cardinals are also not subject to ordination. Clerically they are
nothing more nor less than Bishops.

#12. So who exactly are all these in the College of Cardinals?

Cardinal Bishop, Chairwoman- Neaj Pa Bol

Cardinal Bishop, Jediism Rite, Vice Chairman- Nayeldraccon
Cardinal Bishop, Jediism Rite, Clergy- Jon
Cardinal Bishop, Defender of the Faith- War Beauty (ABSENT)
Cardinal Bishop, Sergeant at Arms- DAN (ABSENT)
Cardinal Bishop, Abrahamic Rite- Zanthan Storm
Cardinal Bishop, Abrahamic Rite- UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Cardinal Bishop, Buddhist Rite- Merin Kyo Den (ABSENT)
Cardinal Bishop, Buddhist Rite- Garm
Cardinal Bishop, Pagan Rite- Dobin Conas
Cardinal Bishop, Pagan Rite- Anora^una_Ilorn

#13. Don't these sound awfully Catholic?

Not at all, in fact the terms Minister, Reverend, and Bishop (as well as Arch-Bishop) are used by churches of many
different faiths throughout the world. You'll probably be surprised to know that the terms Bishop and Arch-bishop
are not at all exclusive to Catholicism. In fact they were originally Greek words (Episkopos) simply meaning Leader
or Teacher. The term Bishop is used to define a position of stewardship in many Churches from many different
faiths.

Buddhist Churches of America uses the term Bishop to show the leadership of it's temples. Many sects of Judaism
use the term Bishop to define its stewards. The followers of the Bahai Faith use the term for their leading clergy.
Followers of Zoroastrianism use this designation. Those who practice the Mithraist faith use this title. In fact just
three years ago the First Muslim Bishop was appointed as such. The list goes on and on... . So the term Bishop is not
Catholic at all, but merely a commonly understood means of labeling and defining the stewards of a church, temple,
organization, etc...

#14. What services are there for the members?

THIS NEEDS SERIOUS ATTENTION!!!!

- Executive Commitee- Neaj Pa Bol, Nayeldraccon, Jon

-- Treasurer- Br. John, Nayeldraccon, Jon

The treasurer is a committee of three persons. We pay the $30 every month for the server and $38 twice a year for
the PO Box.

- President- Br. John ( Vice President-Nayeldraccon)

In our case the president is the chief secular operations officer of the corporation and deals with legal affairs and
keeping the corporation legal under Texas and Federal law. He files the reports with the state. The president also
concerns himself with the structure of our Temple.

- Vice President of Clergy, Chairman of the Board - Jon

He concerns himself for the formation of the Temple members as Jedi and to be ordained clerics.

- Public Relations Officer, also titled Defender of the Faith-

Our Public Relations officer opens a door to two sides (inside and out ) of our Temple. This is done through media
presentation be it on line, radio, press or TV, and through logistics of the Temple of the membership and structural
components.
- Intake Officer- Sarus, Kana Seiko Haruki, Karol Fett
As soon as a member joins they get a welcome via PM and email from an intake officer. This gives the new member
a chance to ask questions and determine what Rite that member is in.

This is a lot of work for one person. There are more than one and work with the new members on a rotating basis so
no one person has to much of a load (A, B, C, A, B, C cycle).

- Temple Security Officer - Kana Seiko Haruki, Sarus, Karol Fett

An invaluable service guaranteeing the Temple`s membership safety and image a high degree of credibility. TSOs
are persons of trust who can and should be contacted in the case of any anti- social or illegal activities. All contacts
are treated seriously and confidentially.

- Youth Officer- Sarus, Karol Fett, Kana Seiko Haruki

Due to increasing interest shown by younger members and the vulnerability of such members, a youth officer
(trusted members of our community) has the duty of accommodating for our under 18 year olds. The youth officer is
a person of trust who can be contacted in confidence on any issue. One important aspect of our youth work is the
direction of discussion for under 18 year olds in the youth forum.

- Ambassador-
The Ambassador is the one who not only represents us at other sites (TOTJF...) but also keeps members here
informed of what is happening there. To encourage greater interaction the Ambassador invites our brother and sister
communities to join the WebRing.

- Journalist-
Our journalist provides our members with the opportunity of discovering new and old literature. This is done
through research (on line, books, reviews, articles, media reports) and critical reporting.

- Librarian- Jasper_Ward
- - Committee Chair, Mythology, Pagan/Druid religion, Academy,Martial Arts
- - Committee member, Pagan/Druid Religion, Academy
- - Committee member, Pureland Religion, Academy, Clergy
- - Committee member, Pureland Religion, Clergy, Martial Arts
- - committee member, 5th rite, parables, religion
- - academy, clergy, religion
- - Martial Arts Lead Librarian
- - Karol Fett- Historian
- - Parabales, Pureland religion
- - Christian religion, parables

Main focus of the librarian is to add information to the library from members that contribute to its areas. Librarians
are also the only personnel with admin access to change or overwrite what is already there. Librarians are
responsible with upkeep of information for the library.

#15. What does the Church Symbol Stand For?

1. The orthodox Jedi Code (5 star)

2. 16 basic teachings of the Jedi (inner 16 star)
3. The interdependence of Light and Dark- A Jediist is in harmony with the living Force of Creation (The Force)

#16. Are there any important Jedi Feast/Holy Days in TOTJO like the other Churches
have?

October 25- Jedi Memorial Day (For the deceased)
October 31- Jedi Youngling Day/Pagan Rite Recollection Day
December 25 (2005)- TOTJO Anniversary Day
December 31- Jedi Day of Reflection

#17. What is the TOTJO position on the Sith?

As the name clearly states we are Temple of the Jedi Order. Our Oath and the very body of our Doctrine defines us
as a community of Jedi who listen to the will of the living Force for self-improvement and to help others. In our
abandonment of our obsessive attachments both material and personal we accept the guidance of that same Force.
This lack of invisibility or what some call the Dark Side is the main differentiating factor to the Sith. Our actions are
guided by Trust (May the Force be WITH you) and not with Intention (May the Force SERVE you well). The only
thing we have in common are our reference to the one universal Force. If you are called to the Sith way of life then
this Temple cannot accommodate nor justify the necessary teaching you will need.

# 18. Who or what is the Executive Directorship?

The Executive Directorship is the General Management of TOTJO, consisting of

Grand Master Rev. John Henry Phelan D.D. OCP - Br. John
Grand Master Rev. Hans Finch D.D. OCP - Fr.Jon
Master Rev. Mark Barwell D.D. OCP - Mark Anjuu
The EC has legislative, consultative and spiritual directive powers within TOTJO.

# 19. Who or what is the TOTJO Council?

TOTJO Council is our Supreme Court to act and decide on appeals. The Council is meant to provide a sense of
direction without inhibiting the latitude and trust each Master or Knight deserves.

Pureland: Sarus
Buddhist: Garm
Abrahamic: Neaj Pa Bol (on Leave of Absence), Zanthan Storm
Pagan: Tiamat (on Leave of Absence), Mark Anjuu
Humanistic: Kana Seiko Haruki
President/Patriarch: Br. John
Patriarch of the Dark Order: Jon
# 20. What to do if you are interested in ministry for TOTJO?

If you are interested in a commission to minister on a special occasion, in being a licenced minister or ordination
you will be asked to fulfill requirements:

1. A one time commission to minister:

PM explaining the situation and a letter of reference can be written for the appropriate authorities.

2. Licenced Ministry:

A minimum time of membership of 6 months is required. You will be asked to do some preliminary training. Once
these have been fulfilled a certificate can be sent per e mail, or for a cost per post.

3. Ordination:

A minimum time of membership of 6 months is required. You will be asked to do some preliminary training. In light
of this and in mutual agreement an on line ordination will take place. Once these have been fulfilled a certificate can
be sent per e mail, or for a cost per post.

# 21. What oaths are there and what are they exactly?

Our Jedi Oaths are not acts of worship in the same sense as in liturgical celebrations, but they are acts that have a
sacred and legal character, imposing obligations. A Jedi Oath is a promise made to Force witnessed by the
community of the Temple, the fulfillment of which is a serious obligation. Such a promise implies more than a wish
or a desire but rather is a firm decision to fulfill the Oath which is taken. A Jedi Oath must be made with sufficient
deliberation, knowingly, and with due discernment. The Jedi Oath must be taken freely, that is without grave and
unjust fear, or without external malice. A Jedi Oath made under such circumstances is invalid. Fear has serious
bearing when, in order to escape some serious harm that is perceived, a person sees no alternative other than to take
the Jedi Oath. Also malice is a condition of non validity as it is the deliberate act of lying or of concealing the truth
in order to get another person to make a vow which he or she would not do if the truth were known, or in order for
oneself to get permission to make a vow, which would not be permitted if the truth were known. Also invalid is a
Jedi Oath made out of ignorance or error concerning an element which constitutes the substance of the Jedi Oath.
Ignorance is lack of knowledge; error is mistaken judgment. Ignorance or error invalidates the Jedi Oath if the
person vowing lacked knowledge of, or erred in judgment about, something that is of the substance of the Oath.

The main legal difference between what we describe as simple and solemn (distinct since 4th February 2010) is that
Jedi who take a solemn Jedi Oath (taken at the public Knighting)declare their complete and binding commitment to
the ways of the Force as prescribed at TOTJO, whereas Jedi who take a simple Jedi Oath have a right to renounce at
any time or are released after a set time from the obligations therein. A temporary Jedi Oath, which is a preliminary
Oath or precondition to it`s solemn counterpart and expires after a stated period of time, is always a simple Oath.

A personal Jedi oath (formulated in personal words) on the other hand binds the person to personal acts or
obligations, but is in no way compelling to TOTJO or compels TOTJO.

# 22. What Is The Process For Making A Complaint Etc.

It is not a common occurrence for complaints to be made - however, we at TOTJO treat any complaint very
seriously and NO ONE is beyond disciplinary action.

The role of ‘'Peacekeeper' within the temple (or conflict resolution) was until about 1 year ago (at time of writing)
carried out by a SAA (Sergeant At Arms).

More recently - the role has been 're-branded' as a part of restructuring the complaints process. The title is now
Temple Security Officer. The people now responsible for this job are (at time if writing)

Grand Master Kana-Seiko Haruki (Senior Security Officer)

Master Sarus (Security Officer)

Honorary Master (Senior Knight) Karol Fett (Security Officer & Youth Discipline Lead)

These members serve many roles but essentially - IF you have a concern or complaint about another member, be it
their behaviour or in regard to a post - then the above members are your first port of call. All complaints are treated
seriously but with utmost confidentiality.

If you believe your concern to be more serious (for example, with real world legal implications) then contact ANY
of the Grand Masters who make up the Temple Council or Br.John directly.

Likewise - if your concern is related to a minor (anyone under the age of 18 years) you may wish to contact Master
Anora^una_Ilorn who is the Temple Youth Officer, or (again) any of the Masters/Grand Masters if the matter is
urgent.

Generally, our admin and moderator team will handle inappropriate posts in the forum but if you find anything
offensive or have a concern about either an existing post or something you wish to post, then please contact one of
the Admins/Moderators.

On the rare occasion where by none of the senior members are logged in and you wish to 'complain' about (for
example) posts in the shoutbox or chatroom - your first steps are to contact any Knights that are logged in - if no
Knights are present, then the best thing to do is make a copy of the offending text (and paste into notepad or similar)
along with a note of who posted it and the approximate time of the post and a list of anyone else logged in at the
time.

The matter will be investigated as soon as possible.

If your complaint is of a sensitive nature, be assured that any Masters or Knights who are also members of the clergy
are bound to keep your confidence (much as a Catholic Priest) - however - there are certain circumstances where we
are bound by law to report certain concerns to the authorities if serious enough.

In all cases - the fastest method of contact is using the temple Private Message tool.

In the vast majority of cases - a simple cooling off period with a polite and calm attitude resolves most issues -
generally a complaint is a case of 'misunderstanding' - keep in mind that not everyone speaks English as their first
language and that local variations/terms/dialect etc may be harmless in one part of the world and deeply rude in
another.
# 23. What Happens Following A Complaint?

The Temple security staff will investigate an issue and resolve it with all parties concerned.

If for whatever reason they cannot deal with the matter to the satisfaction of all, then the complaint goes up the
ladder tot he Senior Temple Security Officer (if they are not already dealing with the issue).

Should this person be unable to deal with the situation or for some reason either the accused or plaintiff does not
wish the Senior Temple Officer to deal with the situation - then the matter will be passed over to the Temple Council
- they will nominate a member to be the spoke person in the case and the spokesperson will be in communication
with all parties involved.

The decision of The Council is FINAL. There is no appeal system called Br.John except in the most rare of
occasions.

Br.John is outside of the council for legal reasons - he is neither answerable too the council nor is he 'boss' over the
council. The Senior Temple Security Officer is a part of The Council - but is unbiased in all cases.

If the complaint is against a member of The Council or the Senior Temple Officer - then Br.John takes their place on
The Council for the duration of the investigation etc of the case.

If a complaint is serious enough to warrant the investigation and thus actions of The Council - then those found to be
in breach of the temple rules can expect a form of punishment - this can range from a period of suspension from the
site (a time out), denial of certain access (eg a chatroom ban) up to total expulsion from the temple (very rare).

The Temple security Officers have permission and powers from the council to punish where necessary - appeals
should be taken up with the Senior Tempe Security or the council. The Councils decisions are FINAL.

In all cases - evidence will be gathered and stored and kept on file.

# 24. What Are The TOTJO Website 'Rules'?

Firstly - we prefer to think of them as guidelines or even manners - most of these are common sense and simple
'(n)etiquette' - but we have to post them and as such - there are no excuses for not abiding by them.

The guidelines cover all and every section of the site - to be clear, that means the forum, blogs, shoutbox, chatrooms
etc.

All of these areas are subject to constant monitoring and disciplinary action will be taken when and where necessary.

Swearing (and general abuse of other members)

SWEARING / BAD LANGUAGE / EXPLETIVES / PROFANITIES (whatever term you wish to use).

Firstly - it has been said numerous times in blogs and forum posts that a saying goes 'if you think it could offend
then it probably will' - on a similar theme - post what you think is acceptable for an 8 year old to read (be it your
own child or another) - this is in fact a family forum after all.
Now we all slip occasionally - so it isn’t a case of 1 offence and you’re in big trouble - the people this post is
directly aimed at are those who are persistent and do so in a flagrant manner - even after unofficial and official
warnings about it. This generally covers shout box and chat - but to a degree also the private messaging system and
most certainly the forums. Three of the four aforementioned areas, admins have direct control over - obviously – we
are not aware of such behaviour in private messages unless the recipient brings it to our attention - and if the
recipient complains then it’s enough to warrant investigation.

However - Swearing is not necessary. Swearing is not cool/smart/clever

It demonstrates negative traits in an individual - namely disrespect for fellow users, lack of control (on many levels)
and ultimately of oneself. It shows a degree of laziness and ignorance - the English Languages have many suitable
alternatives to expletives. Heat of the moment is not an excuse - as a Jedi ; one should have more control.

Now the temple currently does not use filth-filters in chat or for the forums - we would rather not treat all our
members as immature fools and implement these measures due to a small minority - and likewise - such filters do
drastically affect the overall performance of the temple site - again - why should all suffer due to the minority?

We also would like to think all members have the self control and discipline to simply not swear

IT IS NOT WARRANTED – IT IS NOT WELCOME – IT IS NOT NECESSARY.

So please - think about what you have typed before you hit the enter/send button and show your respect and
consideration of your fellow temple users by simply having the self restraint to not swear – it is actually easier to
control oneself in this regard when typing than it is in a verbal conversation so there really is no excuse.

As a footnote - some words are 'borderline' - English is not the same in every country it is used, some words are not
'swearing' in terms of the dictionary definition but are still offensive to others - likewise a word can be harmless or
offensive - depending on how it is being used (context) - please keep this in mind - if in doubt, leave it out.

links & linking

As said before a journal is for Jedi training

If you want to post a funny video - use the appropriate section (Shottle Bop) - want to post a music item - find the
'music with Jedi meaning' thread - found a good source of information or an e-book - post it in an appropriate place.
Also this applies to the blogs/announcement section on the left - the site is big enough and has most if not all
eventualities covered - i.e. an appropriate corner for everything - if your unsure about the suitability of a post for the
site (this includes links) then please ask an admin/moderator - if you wish to post a link to your own site or a sales
site - again - get permission from an admin (senior admins in this case) or follow the procedure that is laid out.

We would rather be asked where etc than have to move posts and or copy & paste - this may sound harsh but the site
is big and somewhat messy unruly.

BLATANT SPAM WILL BE DELETED ON SITE (with the possibility of your account being blocked)
If you are unsure of whether or not a post or link is suitable or not - please don't hesitate to ask an admin or
moderator. The Shottle Bop section is considered an 'anything' goes area - but if the post or material could be
considered or 'adult' then please make this clear in the title (eg. 'WARNING 18 RATED)

There are some simple rules of thumb - if you think it could offend - it probably will, or think whether or not you
would be happy for an 8 year old child (your own or a relative etc) to see/hear the material.

THIS IS A FAMILY FORUM SO PLEASE ALWAYS KEEP THIS IN MIND

Pornography will NOT be tolerated in anyway shape or form.

STEALTH ADVERTISING (Member Poaching etc)

Similarly to unsolicited links - we neither appreciate or tolerate the activity some resort too in order to fill up their
own sites and increase its own membership. Be this by using our private messaging system, or shout/chat rooms - it
is strictly forbidden.

TOTJO does however usually happily post a link in the left column to genuine and legitimate sites - all it requires
from other site admins is a simple and polite email or private message to one of the TOTJO site admin who will put
the link to the council for approval. There is no need for stealth activity.

TOTJO cannot be held responsible in anyway (liable etc etc) for the content of sites who's links are here - neither is
the fact a link is here any sort of approval from TOTJO and or its own membership.

The simple fact is that to act in such a manner is actually theft. We (TOTJO) pay server fees monthly as well as the
maintaining of our presence on search engines. To post links or 'poach' members is underhand, and the behaviour of
a parasite.

Those found to be acting in this manner are not only making themselves likely to be banned from TOTJO - but also
opening themselves to real world legal action. We don't bluff on this matter.

Multiple User-names (More Than One Account)

Simple rule - One account per member. There is no point, need or reason for anyone (except the super administrator)
to have more than one account with which to access this site. The only reasons anyone would wish to do this are all
negative so there is no need to expand on this.

Members found to have more than one account will be asked which name they wish to keep - the others will be
locked from further usage. If you have an unusual situation, for example sharing a connection or single computer -
please contact one of the admins for help with this.

If you have an account that has been (for example) temporarily locked for disciplinary reasons - essentially if
another account is being used or has been setup in order to 'get around' a council or temple security officer decision -
then all accounts will have a permanent placed upon them effective immediate - no appeal - no pleads - no mercy.

Subversion will not be tolerated. if a person is found to still persist - real world legal action will be taken.
In the immortal words of our founder 'membership is a privilege not a right' or in the not so immortal words of
grump Kana - 'If you don't like the way we do things here - you don't have to stay'

Journals

Journals are strictly for Jedi training - the only person who is to post in a journal belonging to an apprentice or
initiate - is the thread creator themselves. Knights & Masters are the exception to this and we have good reason for
not posting within such journals too often - the whole point of said journals is to enable potential teaching Masters
(be they Knights or Masters) to look at prospective apprentices work and make informed and frankly important
decisions. They are not a source of 'socialising' as such - you can do that in chat or off topic elsewhere.

Name changes

This IS a temple RULE and its there for good reasons - basically - just because you can doesn't mean you should do
it - much like drinking acid - we don't allow names including the titles of 'Lord' or 'Master' etc etc etc - even ranked
Jedi don't have the title as their user name - your rank (if applicable) is in your avatar box and can also be added to
your sig along with anything else you desire (on contacting an admin to do it for you due to site intricacies)

Your user name can be changed - but it must be for a good reason - not 'cos I feel like it' - if a username change is
required (and generally this is for exceptional occasions such as promotion to Knighthood) - please contact a senior
site admin for a request or permission - if you do have a name change - please post this information in the general
section of the forum.

We have hundreds of members - your average admin cannot be expected to remember who is who if they keep
changing names - it causes confusion and disassociation with members and their journals. If you have changed your
name recently without prior consent - please change it back to the one you created your account with - then seek
advise/permission from an admin etc

We wont however grant permission on a weekly basis - pick a name and keep to it (please)

I WILL MAKE MYSELF KNOWN AS A MINOR TO THE TEMPLE YOUTH OFFICERS

http://templeofthejediorder.org/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,96/func,view/id,22307/catid,64/

If your new to the site and under the age of 18 years please say 'hello' in our Youth league section of the forum (link
above) as our youth officers would like to know of your presence (and age)

If you need to talk to a youth officer - your first port of call is Master Anora^una_Ilorn (April) - due to real world
reasons - she isn't able to log in everyday - if its urgent - please feel free to contact any of the Masters and we'll get
back to you as soon as we can.
Be totally assured that ANYTHING you come to us with will be treated with total confidence (in other words we
wont tell anyone else) - think of us as priests (some of us are priests)

MY SCHOOL WORK IS IMPORTANT AND COMES FIRST

This is going to come across as a lecture or something boring but these things need to be done, (mainly so we,
TOTJO can't be accused of neglecting our responsibilities to our younger members).

Whilst we appreciate and encourage members to be keen to learn the Jedi ways, an important part of our philosophy
is learning and education. We also encourage members of all ages, to keep in mind their 'real world' duties and to
put these before any Temple business. This may be work, family, health, education or anything else.

So especially to our younger members, please please please be sure that your school/college work, be it homework,
assignments, or revision for exams, or training for the school team, whatever, please be sure this work comes first.

By all means complete temple assignments quickly (as long as they are done properly) but be sure your 'real world'
studies are completed first. As a Jedi, it is expected of you to complete ALL tasks to the best of your ability, and be
warned, that the Masters of Apprentices will check your real world school progress and any slips in grades could
result in a pause in your training.

Whilst this may feel like nagging, we have your welfare and future success at our hearts.

I WILL TALK WITH MY PARENTS OR GUARDIAN ABOUT THEIR EXPECTATIONS AND GROUND
RULES FOR GOING ONLINE

I will talk with my parents or guardian so that we can set up rules for going online. The rules will include the time of
day that I may be online, the length of time I may be online, whom I may communicate with while online, and
appropriate areas for me to visit while online. I will not break these rules or access other areas without their
permission.

I will never download anything from anyone I don't know. In addition to offensive content, spam or junk e-mail may
contain viruses that can damage my computer.

I WILL KEEP MY IDENTITY PRIVATE

I will never share personal information such as my full name, my mailing address, my telephone number, the name
of my school, or any other information that could help someone determine my actual identity.

I will also not reveal any personal information about my friends or family. I will never send a person my picture or
anything else without first checking with my parents or guardian.

I give my parents permission to look on the computer to see where I have gone on the Internet, the e-mail and text
messages I have sent and received, or what I do in a chat room. If my parents installed programs that track what I do
on the computer or limit where I go online, I promise not to turn those programs off.

I WILL NEVER RESPOND TO ANY ONLINE COMMUNICATION THAT MAKES ME FEEL

UNCOMFORTABLE

I will tell a trusted adult if I come across any information that makes me feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused.
I will never respond to any messages that are rude or offensive in any way. I will show the message to a trusted adult
right away so that he or she can decide if its necessary to contact the online service or other authorities.

I WILL NEVER MEET IN PERSON WITH ANYONE I HAVE FIRST MET ONLINE WITHOUT
DISCUSSING IT WITH MY PARENTS OR GUARDIAN

Since the biggest danger to my safety is getting together with someone I have first “met” online, I won’t
meet in person with anyone unless my parents or guardian agrees to the meeting, they will go with me to the
meeting, and the meeting will be in a public place.

I WILL RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES RIGHTS WHILE ONLINE

The Internet is a large community; therefore, my behaviour while on it affects others. I will always treat others the
way I would like to be treated.

I will respect copyright laws and check on sources. When writing reports I will make sure that the online sources of
information are credible, and I will always cite my sources.

Piracy is illegal and keeps authors, artists, and others from getting paid for their work. I will never download things
such as pictures, games, music, or movies that have not been given to the public for free.

What to be on the lookout for.

The following site has a wealth of information about what to be on the lookout for when looking at a new site in
regards to is it a cult or some form of a repressive group. Please read through this site carefully and consider
everything that is said before participating in any site. Cults and repressive groups are very dangerous though at the
time they can look enticing. Do not be fooled by the show they put on to try and get you to join. The following site
can not me suggested more strongly for anyone to keep in mind when thinking about joining a website.

# 25. Signatures (sigs) & Other Site Quirks

The admin are aware of this and it seems to be the result of a recent server upgrade(s), and thus - there is nothing we
can do to remedy the problem until the software writers fix it.

Regardless of the reason, if you are desperate to have your signature as you want them, ask an admin to do this for
you via pm.

Make it clear what you want and an admin will do this when they have a spare minute. These are not high priority so
please don't expect them to be done in any desperate hurry as all admins are always busy elsewhere on the temples
running or in real world.

By clear, we also mean any details such as text size and or colour, if its a picture signature you want displaying, send
us the url, we will see to the img codes.

Please be patient on this matter - as said earlier, all the admins are very busy all the time and 'decoration' is not a
priority.

# 25a 'The Phantom random Underscore'

You may notice that after submission of a post in the forum, that some words have been broken up with an
underscore (and underline).

This is a system protection feature that prevents spam and other unwelcome software making use of this site in many
ways.

The most common word(s) and linked and similar words used to describe internet features.

Sometimes when posting an actual link - an unwelcome underscore will appear and thus make the link non-
functioning. There is little you can do about it, but one of the admins may be able to get around this problem for
you.

We know its a pain and can make posts look odd - but it is a small price to pay for the protection it gives our users.

#26. Usernames

Please DO NOT use ranks as part of your username. We do not allow usernames with titles in them such as 'Darth'
'Lord' 'Master' etc etc. simply because such names can and do cause confusion with those who have genuinely
earned the ranks within our temple and it can also be thought of as disrespectful as well to those people

In the past it has been the cause of confusion and leads to a game of one upmanship. The avatar box displays your
appropriate rank and you can also ask an admin to edit your sig. box to display the same information or whatever if
you so wish.
