• Goals for the Meet and Greet:

– Understand the work your child will be doing


throughout the school year.
– Explain expectations of your child.
– How you can support your child’s learning.
Curriculum Goals
• Subjects to be Studied
– Reading (Vocabulary), Writing (Spelling and Grammar), Science
(constructive/destructive forces, genetics, cells and microorganisms) ,
Social Studies (citizen's rights and U.S. History1861-present), and Math
(place value, fractions, geometry, coordinate grids).
• CTLS Learn Features
– Transitions from one class to another (students will follow the 5th grade
schedule, and click in "My Classes" to transition from one class to another)
– Homeroom teacher (Rotation1)/Rotation 2 teacher

– Daily Live Sessions with Teacher
– Independent Work Times
– Format for Wednesdays: Small Group Inst., Intervention, Enrichment
Ways to Support Your Child
• Have your child read a chapter book for 20 minutes per day. Students
can use their Student ID to check out books online through the Cobb
County Public Library: http://www.cobbcat.org/librarypass/

• Check the CTLS Announcements Board and/or teachers' blogs for


assignments, assessments, news, and updates.

• Help your child create a dedicated work space for digital


learning. Students must have: a math notebook, folder, looseleaf
paper, and sharpened pencils each day.

• Encourage your child to get a good night's rest each night.

• Teach your child to be a responsible digital learner.


Class Information
• Explain expectations for student attendance:
– Students must be on CTLS from 7:50am until 12:00pm Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday (completing independent work, and small group work
from 12:45-2:30pm).
– Small group CTLS sessions on Wednesdays from 9:00-10:30am; independent
work from 8:00-9:00 and 12:45-2:30pm.

• Students will be evaluated and graded with independent assignments,


quizzes, and tests.

• Report cards are released every 9 weeks, and progress reports will be
released every 4 ½ weeks through ParentVue and CTLS Parent.

• Independent work time requirements for students.

Weekly Behavior Report
• In CTLS platform, teachers will
send a Weekly Behavior
Report on Friday afternoons.

participation.

behavior, digital citizenship.
Office Hours
• 5th grade teachers will be utilizing CTLS chat and
announcements sections to communicate with
parents. We will respond as time allows
throughout the school day, from 8:00am-
3:00pm. We will respond to all messages within
24 hours. We will be available in CTLS until
3:00pm each day.
• 5th grade teachers' blogs will be updated with
newsletters, and weekly assignments and
assessments overview.

Small Group Instruction
• Small groups will be in Reading, Writing, and Math. All students will be
in flexible groups (may change as their needs change). Schedules
will be posted in the Announcements section each Friday. Additional
small groups may be added during the week (and will be updated in
Announcements section).

– Small Group Reading: Monday and/or Tuesday, and/or Wednesday.


– Small Group Writing: Thursday and/or Friday, and/or Wednesday.
– Small Group Math: Monday, and/or Tuesday, and/or Wednesday,
and/or Thursday, and/or Friday.
– ESOL and/or SPED teachers may also hold small groups for students.

after living in California for 5 years.

Chrissy Dunn • This is my 6th year at Powers Ferry,


and my 18th year teaching.

• I have 2 daughters, ages 15 and


11, and one son, age 7 ¾. ☺

• I love to run, play tennis, read, and


attend all of my children’s games
and meets (baseball, soccer, XC
and track!).

*Hello, I am new to Powers Ferry Elementary my name is Mr. Proby.
*I will be teaching in the following grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.

labrador retriever
*My daughter will be starting 2nd grade this year and my son will be starting
kindergarten.
