ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT ASSIGNMENT

You are supplied with a map for the exercise. A section of the N2 Freeway is indicated
on the map running approximately between Umhlanga Rocks and La Mercy on the North
Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The section of road you are to consider in this exercise is
between A and B – as marked on the map.

In your group, you are to discuss and list the various environmental impacts that could
have arisen from the construction and operation of this section of the N2 and make an
evaluation of the possible relative significance of the various impacts. It is not important
that you don’t know the actual site – all the information you require is on the map. Most
of the impacts you come up with would apply to any road project of this type although
some would be more site-specific.

You are required to produce individual reports consisting of an Introduction, Method and
Approach, Findings and Conclusion. The report is due on 18 October 2004.
