First Grade!
Selwyn Elementary School
First Grade
2020-2021
All About the Teacher
I have been blessed to be a part of the Selwyn Elementary family for 18 years...five
years as a parent, five year as an Instructional Teacher Assistant, and eight years
teaching first and second grade.
I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida to parents who were both educators. I
attended Stetson University in DeLand, FL and graduated from the University of
Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. After graduation I
spent five years teaching History in grades 9-12.
After staying home to raise my daughters, I returned to the classroom in 2006
AND to school at UNCC to complete a Graduate Certificate in Elementary
Education.
The 2020-21 school year will be my sixth year teaching 1st grade at Sewlyn and I
love spending my days learning with such curious, busy, and happy little people!
I have been married to my husband for 30+ years and we have two wonderful
daughters... Kady and Ellie...both Selwyn graduates.
We share our home with our two precocious and active dogs... Izzie, our Yellow Lab,
and Jack, our Scottish Terrier...and our newest addition...Max, the Selwyn kitty
rescued from the A/C unit at the school. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening,
reading historical fiction, traveling, and spending time at the beach.
Each year I LOVE getting to know all of my new "Firsties" and sharing our school
year exploring, learning, and enjoying all the things a first grade year holds!

The first week, our live lessons will include lessons to go
over expectations with students entering the live lesson,
how to engage in whole group instruction, how to engage
in partner work, and how to engage in small group work. I
will also walk students through how to get onto canvas
daily to access their independent work for the day. Small
