A lesson in friendship

I learned the hard way how to make friends in the university. At my school in Cali, I was on the soccer team, so I was very popular, and I was

always talking to people. Unfortunately, everything changed when I was 16 years old because I started the university. Going to the university was

not easy for me. The first days in this huge place were extremely difficult. The class schedule was complex because I did not have all the classes one

after the other – like in school; so, I was normally sitting in the grass waiting for the next class. The teachers were also different, they were more

informal but super strict. All students dressed casually, we did not have to wear uniforms. Some classmates tried to be nice to me, but I did not want

to talk to them. To me they looked “funny”! After a few weeks, I realized that no one tried to talk to me anymore and I began to feel lonely. Finally,

I realized that I was rejecting my new classmates – I was the problem. As a result, I started talking to people in my classes and eventually I made

some good friends. I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of talking to everybody.
