Assistance communication
in hospitals and residential
homes for the elderly

EGi Secura "primma" is an alarm and intercommunication system to be used in public

installations and specially in hospitals and residential homes for the elderly.

As it is easy to operate and to install, Secura Primma is the most competitive and suitable
solution for hospitals and residential homes for the elderly which have up to 1020 rooms.
These rooms can be controlled from one or more places which, in turn, can be re-addressed
to a different control point (e.g. to the night duty post).

Remote room terminal

• Placed in the floor bus, this device connects 2 single rooms or a double room
(with 2 beds) to its nurse calling station.
• It is connected to the system by a 6-wire bus cable (power, data and audio)
EGi ref. 5504.
• To be fastened to DIN rail (7u. width) and placed in a surface mounting box
or flush mounting box.
• It is equiped with plug-in connectors to make the installation easier.
• It must be placed as close as possible to the room(s) to be controlled. It can
be concealed in a false ceiling as long as a solid structure it is used (never
loose-fitting or leant on the false ceiling).
• Available per room:
— Digital inputs: assistant care presence, normal call and urgency call
5503 (through normally closed push-button activation).
— Digital outputs: presence and call signals.
— Configurable auxiliary port.
— Preamplified microphone and loudspeaker to allow bidirectional
conversation with the floor control unit.
• Up to 510 remote room terminals can be installed (which means up to 1020
single rooms).
• The terminal can be configurable as:
— MODE 1: installation for 2 single rooms with individual recognition of the
patient generating the call; auxiliary port available to be used as input/output,
or installation in a double room without individual recognition of the patient
generating the call; auxiliary port not available as it is being used by the
second bed of each room.
— MODE 2: installation in a double room, with individual recognition of the

fast connectors to make • Configurable auxiliary port can be set as input/output (the configuration for
the installation easier both rooms is shared). When set as input, it could be used to generate either
normal or urgency calls as soon as the room will be provided with additional
warning elements (presence sensor, window opening sensor,...). When set as
output, it can be used to activate any device through a free-voltage contact.

Nurse calling station

• It allows to receive calls from the assigned rooms as well as establish an audio
communication with them.
• It has been thought as an independent unit for each floor of a building so that
it can answer the calls received from that floor.
• All the calls from any floor can be diverted from its assigned calling station
to the designated main nurse calling station, so that any call from any room
can be answered in only one place. IT IS RECOMMENDED to have a place
where a main nurse calling station can supervise the good working order of
the system.
5303 • The main nurse calling station displays all the events permanently but it will
not take part on a room alarm unless the calls from that floor are diverted.
• Any nurse calling station can be configurated as main, but there can only be
one.
• The nurse calling station consists of 2 devices:
— a customized telephone terminal
— a console with display screen, desk microphone and loudspeaker.
• Apart from answering the calls from the residents, it can establish a conversation
with the rooms by simply dialing the room number on the telephone keyboard.
• There are two ways of answering a call:
— by using the console microphone and loudspeaker (halfduplex conversation
mode), by pressing and releasing the speaking push-button
— by picking-up the handset once the call is selected on the console (private
and full-duplex conversation mode).
A nurse calling station contains: • The unit has 2 connectors:
— A customized telephone — RJ12 to be connected to the floor interface
terminal.
— A nurse console with — RJ45 to connect the customized telephone terminal (included).
display, gooseneck There are 2 potentiometers available to adjust the loudspeaker volume level

loudspeaker. • Maximum 32 nurse calling stations per installation.

Floor interface
• Floor interface is the device that links the floor bus into the inter-floor bus. In
the same way, it links a group of remote room terminals into its corresponding
nurse calling station. Even more, any call from a room can be diverted to the
main nurse calling station whenever its nurse calling station is out of order.
• The following connections are allowed:
— to the nurse calling station through a flexible cable (included) with RJ12
connectors at both ends
— to floor bus and inter-floor bus through terminal blocks connections (*),
— to the computer through the interface 5805 with a flexible cable with RJ12
connectors at both ends.
• VERY IMPORTANT: connection between the floor interface and the inter-floor
5803 bus will always be made through the bus signal generator 5804 (a 100x100
mm junction box is recommended). “DO NOT CONNECT THE FLOOR
INTERFACE DIRECTLY TO THE INTER-FLOOR BUS”

PC interface module
• PC interface module is presented in a casing to be placed on a surface close
to the computer. It allows to connect the PC to the field bus to carry out the
following tasks:
— bus supervision, with a bus logger
— historical events storing, for user querying on a database
• Connection between PC interface module (5805) and PC is made through a
RS232 cord (DB9 male - DB9 female).
• Connection between PC interface module (5805) and floor interface (5803) can
be made:
5805
— through a flexible cable (RJ12 at both ends) RECOMMENDED.
— through 4-pole terminal block, what would make possible the connection
to the bus wires directly (only exceptional cases).
• The interface has 2 leds which indicate the data transmission activity along
the field bus.
• A CD-ROM with the software to display and query the historical event database
is provided.
This software allows to query historical alarm events occured in the system,
and to obtain both screen or printed reports ordered by any of these criteria:
— type of call
— resident
— date/time
• Minimum system requirements: Pentium II processor or equivalent, 20 Mbyte
HD, 64 Mbyte RAM and operative system MS Windows 98.

BUS signal generator

• Bus signal generator is used to restore the bus signal voltage level.
• It must be placed between the floor bus and the inter-floor bus.
• With the bus signal generator we get:
— power supply isolation,
— restore digital data voltage level,
— restore audio signal.
5804 • It incorporates a double group of terminal blocks for the connection of incoming
bus wires (from inter-floor bus) and outgoing bus wires (to the floor interface)
respectively.
• It is essential to put a bus signal generator in the following circumstances:
— between the inter-floor bus and the floor interface,
— when there are 6 or more branch lines in a floor bus,
— over 100 m or more on any bus (floor bus or inter-floor bus),
— when using K13G.1 modules to isolate power supply.

The installation is based on the use of a field bus of 6-wire cable (power floor buses through bus signal generators. One or more 15 Vdc power

Bus topology is described on the image below. Two bus levels are
considered: floor bus and inter-floor bus. Floor bus gathers remote room Each remote room terminal can control two single rooms or a double
