We will communicate with you throughout the year for a variety of reasons: share information,
post pictures of what we are doing throughout the day, upcoming events etc…

Dojo is a classroom communication platform that is utilized at all grade levels

at Walnut Elementary. If you have been connected in the past, you will automatically be linked
to this year’s homeroom teacher. If you are new to this school, we will send you an invite.
Teachers will post announcements, pictures, and videos from our day at school. You can also
message us through Dojo.

Weebly is our 5th grade website. This is where you will find links to each
teacher’s subject area as well as to assignments, educational websites etc…
The link is www.walnutelementaryfifthgrade@weebly.com
Schoology is Teays Valley’s Learning Management Platform. It will be
used during school as well as for hybrid or remote learning. Each subject will have its own
course...think of it as a folder. Inside will be assignments, videos, and links. This is also where
you will find current grades.

In order to maintain a classroom environment that allows all children to learn, the 5th grade
teachers have developed a discipline plan. Please read and discuss the following rules,
consequences, and rewards with your child,

Rules: Consequences:
1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 1. Warning
2. No bad language or teasing. 2. Loss of recess
3. Do not run or yell in the classroom. 3. Student writes letter home.
4. Keep your hands and feet off others. 4. Call parents
5. Have your materials with you. 5. Sent to principal

Rewards:
Students who choose to behave wisely will be included in classroom raffles, parties, and
benefits. Letters and notes of praise may come home with your child too. Please follow us on
Classroom Dojo for updates!

Parties:
We will have a Harvest party in late October, a holiday party in December, and a Valentine party
in February. More information will be forthcoming as those dates approach.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Sincerely,
5th grade teachers
