Teacher: Isaac Mervis Course: Art in Social Date: June 25, 2016
Movements
Key Vocabulary:
Medium, creativity, expression
Procedure: Time:
Do Now/Hook:
As students arrive, “Can’t Stop The Feeling” will be playing 10 min
We will put a tarp down, put a piece of canvas up on the wall, dip
paint brushes in paint, and use our paint brushes to create a splatter
painting
While the students are not painting, we will be singing and dancing
This will exemplify what students generally perceive as art
Direct Instruction/Modeling:
Each student will pick a piece of paper
The pieces of paper will have either a picture of an object (such as 20 min
architecture, carpentry, a ceramic) or instructions (such as “draw a
picture of something in the room,” “do a silly dance,” “write an
original sentence,” “use the desk as a drum”)
We will go around in a circle and the students will say their name and
present their object or action
After all have shared, we will go around to each person, do a cheer
with their name, and decide if we think what they did is considered art
They are all art. Students will then work together to create a definition
of what art is by giving me words and mediums that are associated
with art (if not, I will provide a simple definition)
This shows students that art is more encompassing than they think,
and that they are capable of creating art themselves
Student Practice/Application:
Students will look around the room and try to find 1-2 works of art 10 min
Once they have gotten them, they will give a brief explanation of what
makes them art
Wrap up/Closure:
