The articulation sensor must be adjusted if either of the calibration values is too high or too low. The
calibration value for a right turn will change if the calibration value for a left turn is adjusted, and vice
versa.

Bolt. (6) Shaft. (A) 162 mm (6.38 inch) dimension. (B) Installed position.
Note: A multimeter with PWM measurement capability or CAT Electronic Technician is needed to
make the initial setting of shaft (6) in adjustment lever (2) .
2. Connect the service tool to the TCS calibration plug. The service tool should be in the OFF
(OPEN) position.
3. Connect a digital multimeter with duty cycle capabilities to the TCS service tool banana plug
outputs.

Note: With adjustment lever (2) in the forward position, dimension (A) should be 162 mm (6.38
inch) and the articulation sensor should have an output of 50% ± 2%.
4. If articulation sensor (1) is not within the range (50% ± 2%), then articulation sensor (1) must be
physically adjusted.
5. Adjust the value by loosening bolt (5) and turning shaft (6) in adjustment lever (2). Adjust linkage
(4) until the articulation sensor value is 50% ± 2%. Tighten bolt (5) .
6. Remove the frame lock and calibrate the articulation sensor (1) .
3. Put the TCS in the calibrate mode by turning the TCS service tool to the ON (CLOSED) position.
4. Steer the machine fully to the left and steer the machine fully to the right several times while the
machine is moving.
5. While the machine is steered, view the TCS service tool indicator lamp. When the machine is
fully articulated to the left or fully articulated to the right, the lamp should be ON in a solid state.
If the lamp is not ON in a solid state, articulation sensor (1) needs to be adjusted. If the lamp
flashes "ON"-"ON"-"OFF", then articulation sensor (1) is past the valid range. If the lamp is
"OFF", then the articulation sensor value is inside the valid range.
6. If the lamp flashes "ON"-"OFF" and the machine is not articulated, a good calibration has been
recorded.
7. Turn the switch to the OFF position after the following conditions are met.
The machine has been steered fully to the left and the machine has been steered fully to the
right for several times.
Note: A digital multimeter with duty cycle capabilities can be connected to the service tool in
order to view the articulation sensor value. The digital multimeter should show a value between
10% and 25% for the left articulation calibration value. The digital multimeter should show a
value between 75% and 90% for the right articulation calibration value.

Sensor Value (typical screen)
5. The screen in illustration 3 can be used to adjust articulation sensor (1) to 50% ± 2% when
articulation link (4) is in the forward position.
6. If articulation sensor (1) is within the range (50% ± 2%), remove the steering frame lock and
follow the procedure in "Sensor Calibration With CAT Electronic Technician".
7. If articulation sensor (1) is not within the range (50% ± 2%), then articulation sensor (1) must be
physically adjusted.
8. Adjust the value by loosening bolt (5) and turning shaft (6) in adjustment lever (2). Adjust linkage
(4) until the articulation sensor value is 50% ± 2%. Tighten bolt (5) .
9. Unlock the steering frame lock link so that the machine can be articulated.
10. Articulate the machine in both directions while you watch the value of sensor (1) .
Note: If the articulation values are not correct, repeat Steps 8 through 10 so that both values are
acceptable.
11. If articulation sensor (1) is within the range (50% ± 2%), remove the steering frame lock and
follow the procedure in "Sensor Calibration With CAT Electronic Technician".

Sensor Value (Typical Screen)
5. Illustration 5 shows the left calibration points and the right calibration points on a graph. The
graph represents the steering range of the machine. The unshaded areas represent the range of
possible good left calibrations and good right calibrations. If the calibration point is good, the
calibration point will be displayed in green. If the calibration point is not good, the calibration
point will be displayed in red.
Note: If the calibration was unsuccessful, follow the procedure in "Sensor Adjustment With CAT
Electronic Technician".
Note: If both the "left turn" value and the "right turn" value are inside the acceptable ranges or
outside the acceptable ranges after following the procedure above, articulation sensor (1) must be
replaced.
