( MELCs) in Science Narrative Report

The meeting started with an opening prayer and National Anthem led by Sir
Agustin Velasco. The opening remarks was led by Mam Mina Gracia Acosta.

According to Dr. Marinella Garcia-Sy, we should take into consideration the

approaches and pedagogies such as: Multidisciplinary Approach, Contextual
Learning, Problem/ Issue-Based Learning, Inquiry Based Approach,
Constructivism, Social Cognition Learning Model, Learning Style Theory, and
Brain-Based Learning. She also discussed that the number of Learning
competencies from 284, was dropped down to 187 number of Most Essential
Learning Competencies. She also discussed the characteristics of Essential LCs,
the dropped and rephrased K to 12 LCs from grade 3 up to the Senior High
School ELCs, how to use the MELCs and some important notes to consider in
aiming the objectives of the Science Program which is to develop scientific,
technological and environmental literacy among learners, have skills in problem
solving, responsible stewardship, innovation and creativity, informed decision
making and effective communication.

She also said that the release of the MELCs is not just a response to
addressing the challenges of the current pandemic but it is also part of the
Department’s long-term response to the call of SDG to develop resilient
education systems, most especially during crises. The meeting ended in an open
forum/ questions among the Science Coordinators/ Head Teachers. We were also
reminded before the end of the online meeting that as much as possible we
should adapt contextualization and 7 E’s when we are making our DLL and it
should be in line with the MELCs this school year, and that it should be attainable
in an online/ blended learning. She also suggested that we can use our previous
DLL or other learning resources for supplemental purposes but it still depends on
the MELCs given.
