PYP Newsletter Year 2


Dear Parent,

Welcome to a new academic year and fresh beginnings!


I hope everyone had a great summer break and are re-
freshed for a lot of learning and fun.
We are delighted to have you as partners in our community
of life-long learners. We take great pride in fostering a col-
laborative spirit that is nurtured through inquiry-based
learning.
Please find the information for our current Unit below.

Through this unit the students develop an understanding of

communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities;
what it means to be human.

The students will enhance their listening and speaking skills enhanced by contributing
to group discussion, sharing ideas and information.

They will learn about different personalities through reading texts and retelling famil-
iar stories in sequence while reading different fiction texts

They will be using adjectives, verbs and pronouns while describing their role models
and writing about them.

To develop their research skills they will be given an introduction on how to use the
internet to access relevant information; process and present information in ways that
are personally meaningful.

MATHEMATICS

The students will learn to count, compare, order and estimate numbers to 1000.

They will recall addition and subtraction facts through different techniques.

They will read and write the time to the minute and second, using intervals of 10
minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minute, on 12-hour and 24-hour clocks.

They will be introduced to inequalities (greater than or less than).

SOCIAL STUDIES

The students will identify different kinds of role models

Students will convey an awareness and understanding of their role models in a variety of
ways. (oral, pictorial, written and role-play)

They will inquire into the beliefs and values that affects their decisions.

MUSIC

Students will choose and sing songs of legends of their own


choices.

They will also inquire about music history of music legends.

PERSONAL SCOCIAL AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

In this unit, students will inquire about choices of role models.

Students will use their values to establish criteria to select their indi-
vidual hero and/or role model and discuss issues of perfection and
flaws and their own aspirations for the future.

HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR CHILD AT HOME

• Work towards a healthy lifestyle (eating well and exercising regularly) since par-
ents are the biggest role models for their children.
• Discuss with your child about famous personalities and why they are idealized by
children.
• Good role models can make lifelong impressions on children. Speak to your child
about choosing the importance of good role models that contributed to making a
positive difference to mankind.
• Take your child to a local library or a book store and have them pick biographies/
autobiographies that they can read on famous personalities that impacted and
touched the lives of others.
