GUIDELINES FOR AN EFFECTIVE G.D.

AND PERSONAL INTERVIEW

What are the questions in Aptitude tests ?


The important topics are : reasoning, logic,
puzzles, problems on age, problems on
blood relations, problems on direction,
problems on decision making, time and
distance, probability, time and work, ratio
and proportion, mixtures, mensuration,
geometry, basic mathematics concepts,
classification, series, graph, data analysis
etc.

What should be there in your biodata?


It should present yourself properly. It should
highlight your career goals, your mission for
life, your achievements, milestones and
your ambitions. It should also present your
academic and corporate pregression
chronologically (latest achievement first and
oldest ones at the end).

What should be the dress ?


Formal dress,
light colour shirt and dark colour trousers
(with plates) / or / business suit
keep your pen, biodata, copies of
credentials ready.
properly shaved / proper hair /

What is the time and structure of GD?


There are about 10-12 persons in a GD to
discuss on some important issue which has
been given to them just before GD. These
persons discuss for about 30-40 minutes.
The issues of GD are generally
contemporary issues, which are highlighted
by media or business circles.
What should be the strategy in G.D.?
Understand the topic well, take initiative to
initiate - speak out like this : "Let us have a
fruitful discussion on this topic, - we all can
contribute our ideas - then we can try to
come to a conclusion or evolve some
consensus about the key issues ..... "

What are important aspects in a G.D.?


These are important issues : -
a. How do you handle group dynamics ?
b. are you able to adjust to the group
pressures and group disputes?
c. Are you able to speak out your ideas
confidently in the group without getting
bugged down under group pressure / group
think?
d. Do you listen others well and are you
able to keep the group focussed on topic
and concerned for achieving the objectives
of the group?
e. Do you have the ability to mingle well with
the group without compromosing on the
quality of discussions.
What are the common problems in GD?
Some people dont speak at all and even
dont listen others well.
Some people engage in unnecessary
disputes and divert to some other topics
Some persons start personal accusations or
negative comments.
Some persons speak too much and dont
listen to others.
Some persons speak in very low voice or
very high pitched tone.
Some persons dont have any awareness
about the topic being discussed.

What should you speak if you are not


comfortable ?
Share facts that you know
Share ideas boldly and confidently.
Dont be unreasonably adamant and try to
adapt to the situation and modify your
presentation based on the discussions.

What preparation is required before


interview?
Know about the company and the position
for which you are applying
Know about the place where you will be
working (in case you know).
Know about the policies, achievements, HR
practices of the company you are applying.
Know about your job profile, job description,
expectations of the employer.
Know about your expected salary, package,
incentives and other amenities that you will
get (dont panic for salary - if you are not told
about, quality of work culture and
opportunities for learning are more
important).
