Marilyn K. Pelosi & Theresa M. Sandifer, Elementary Statistics, 3rd and 6th edition ; Bluman,
Elementary Statistics, Seventh Edition
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces students of the social sciences, Biology and Chemistry to the basic
understanding of simple statistical methods needed to do simple analysis of data as development
changes occurs in the real world. Students will appreciate the use of tables, graphs and
measurements to analyzing research data. The course covered topics such as Frequency distribution,
Data Description; measures of central tendency, measures of variation, measures of position, the
Normal Distribution, Correlation and Regression; and the use of statistical tables.
PRE-REQUISITE
Math 101
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, the students shall be able to identify, define, describe, write, graph,
distinguish, solve, and optimize, problems involving: statistics, variables, sample, population data
collection, frequency distribution, graphs, mean, median, mode, geometric mean, weighted mean,
variance, standard deviation, quartiles, percentiles, deciles, standard normal distribution, area under
the curve, scatter plots, correlation, correlation coefficient, rank correlation, regression, regression
by least square method, the regression equation and the statistical tables
